Laszlo Gulyas Budapest, Hungary

The artist developed his individual world of images and acquired the painting techniques of the early masters of painting under the influence of the universal art of Rembrandt. This is what makes him distinct form his contemporaries. He seems to be charmed by the revival of heritage rather than by demolishing the art of painting or by recording its death struggle. In his works he applies the contrastive effects of the light and the shade with brilliant skills. Besides the clear colours his sketching appears to be remarkable.

Hungary is possibly my new favorite country, with Budapest as the favorite city. They have a great culture. They have been into electric and mechanical research for a very long time, and have wonderful museums. The architecture, aka 'houses' are a great varity of periodes from the splendid pompous stone castles, via concrete, and brick to the modern ones of glass. And best of all: they have a outdoor pool based on hot springs, where you can play chess with a friend (or a stranger) while relaxing in 37-38 degree C warm water, also during winter. I would claim (without been there during summer) that the cold air make the experience even better. The fog makes the whole thing rather magical.

And now the most important feature: I can afford going there, while feeling like a human being. The locals are equal to me with their wondeful city that is alive and intressting to the locals. The city is not there to please me, the inhabitants are not my poor servants that will do anything for a penny. The hot spring pool of The Szécheny are there for the locals, and I as a tourist is just visiting.

I was so amazed I forgot to take pictures. A good thing someone else did:

The event in support of the Government promoted by the Hungarian Fidesz - Hungarian Civic Union Conservative Party, in Budapest, last Saturday. It is, in its kind, touching. I don't say "why we are not Hungarian?" - I am proud and happy to be Italian - but "why instead of our complex and soulless, we don't have here a right like the Hungarian one?".
If you can, spend a half hour on the movie, and if you want, share it as much as possible. Doesn't it tell you anything the fact that virtually no one has talked about it?

This “special relationship” was also evident in the “revival of Jewish culture, Jewish music, Jewish festivals, Jewish food and Jewish religious life” in Hungary, he asserted. Martonyi said it was further evident in the 200,000 Hungarian-born Jews in Israel, a community he maintained continued to form a “bridge between the two countries.”
