Tweet. Tweet. Most SEOs understand that on page factors have and will continue to decline in importance within the Google algorithm and SEO. We all know that Google takes no notice of the meta keyword...

My latest blog post, The Science of Correlation Studies. It covers what a correlation is, how to calculate it, how I'm scaling correlation over a large dataset and weaknesses with the model.

Just published this new blog posted.

Some really interesting data from 12,573 keywords and 12+ million web pages.
I recently completed an automatic searching of Google of 12573 keywords. I extracted the top 100 results for those keywords, so around 12 million web pages and 342740 unique domains. This is the datas...

More evidence that keyword density is a waste of time http://www.theopenalgorithm.com/myths/killing-off-keyword-density/
Tweet. Tweet. As much as any SEO worth their salt knows that keyword density is not a ranking factor, there are some out there that still believe it is a signal in the Google algorithm or somehow is r...

Erm...

You haven't "proven" that KD has no bearing.

You've merely shown that in a singular view, as a flat value, with no relational or influence values - it appears to have little bearing.
Not the same thing.

I hoenstly don't get it.
You're clearly very smart.
You belabour the point of Correlation vs Causation.
Then you go and using hyperbole wording and assumptive phrases and ruin what is otherwise a standup job.

Huge - just posted my most significant set of correlations yet, on the value of link building http://www.theopenalgorithm.com/correlation-data/links/
Tweet. Tweet. Links have been an integral part of SEO since Google joined the scene. But recently link building's popularity has taken a bit of a hit, with many believing that Google have reduced ...

So much more to it than just "links" ... and so many in the SEO field dont really pay attention to detail.
A handful of good, solid links from trusted, relevant and popular sites will do more than 1k spammy rapid drop links.

(More importantly - they will last the distance, and you don't have to run around like a headless penguin years later trying to clear them up :D)

Just published my first correlation data findings today.

Correlations for domain TLDs, exact match domains, hyphenated exact matches and other domain related factors.
The correlations are very low which likely means that there is little or no relationship, but the minor correlations do show a mild preference for .com and .org domains while .net, .info and .us were ...

New blog post on the domains I studied in the dataset. Correlation stats coming later this week.
Tweet. Tweet. I recently did a parse of 12573 keywords, extracting the top 100 results per keyword on Google. And after cleaning up the data I was left with over 12 million web pages and 342740 unique...

Totally revamped the About The Project page.

Got rid of some horrible content, one video and more. And replaced with some fresh info a better structure and a cool example on how Spearman's Correlation Coefficient works.
