Thanks, Nancy.  That was pretty interesting.  I wonder what sorts of solutions they might be working on (at least the people in the video, if not the companies/cities they referenced).

But you're right, this is a national problem that is growing.

Data has been available for decades that our current diets are good at causing long-term health problems.  Why didn't this information make it into the public dialog? Here is part of the story:

Only a 2 days left to speak up on Net-Neutrality: "The [FCC] Commission will consider proposed rules to protect an Open Internet on May 15. The proposed rules will ask questions about how best to ensure the Internet remains an open platform for innovation and expression.

Chairman Wheeler is encouraging the public to share their views now. He intends to have rules of the road in place before the end of the year to protect consumers and entrepreneurs. He will be listening, and your comments will help inform the final rules.
Please send your thoughts to openinternet@fcc.gov.

Note: You will be filing a document into an official FCC proceeding. All information submitted, including names and addresses, will be publicly available via the web." via FCC.gov

Dream bikes given away....if you live in the right country.
A new Swedish program is giving people bikes - kitted-out, personalized and practical machines, in exchange for a permanent change in their driving habits. What a great concept.

"Boys with autism spectrum disorders or with ADHD are both prone to problematic use of video games, according to a study....[however] it's impossible to say from their study if the video games are causing problems or if children with problems are more likely to be drawn to the games."
Boys with autism spectrum disorders or ADHD put in twice as much time each day playing video games as do typically developing boys. But researchers say they don't know if the games contribute to behavior issues or if the children's difficulties make video games more alluring.

This looks like an interesting hour show: "It tries to connect the dots not just between different iterations of Wonder Woman, but between Wonder Woman and Xena, Buffy Summers, Ellen Ripley, Thelma and Louise, and the riot grrrl movement."
