The fourth Kantipur Hissan Edu-Fair 2017 begins on Thursday at Bhrikutimandap, featuring as many as 100 domestic academic institutions providing higher education. The event targets the students waiting to join higher secondary schooling after completing their Secondary Education Examination. It runs until Sunday.

The Kantipur Media Group and the Higher Institutions and Secondary Schools’ Association Nepal (Hissan), who have been co-organising the event over four years, are holding this edition with a theme ‘Excellent Education within Nepal’ aimed at spreading message that the academic institutions within the country are capable to provide quality education. Besides Among the participants are the major universities, including Tribhuvan University, Pokhara, Purbanchal, Mid-Western and Far-Western University, along with the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training.

The organisers claim that the four-day fair will help students find an institution providing higher education of their choice. They have requested students to come along with their parents to the event so that they can jointly take a right decision.

“There is a false impression that one has to travel abroad for quality education. We want to assure that students can get education of their choice within the country,” said Hissan Chairman Ramesh Silwal at a press meet on Wednesday. He claimed that the students do not need to spend hundreds of thousands of rupees and travel overseas in the name of education, while calling on the domestic institutions to do more to inform the prospective students about education and services they are offering.

Hissan General Secretary Lok Bahadur Bhandari, also the coordinator of the fair, said that students visiting the fair would also get career counseling. “The fair goes much beyond publicising ourselves. We are also providing the right counseling to the students to help them choose a career path,” he said.

With the participation of as many as 100 academic institutions, the organisers said, the fair allows students and parents to compare a number of academic institutions under one roof.

“Youths are the future of the country. Providing them good education means we are generating quality human resources to lead our country in different sectors,” said Assistant General Manager of Kantipur Publications Mahesh Swar, adding the fair is a good platform for the students to select the right academic institution for them.
