French Title Deeds show who the owners are and how the title is held by each e.g. in common or in joint names. Other rights such as 'usufruct' do show on title documents too.

The process of carrying out land registry searches in France commonly involves two main steps.

- An initial application must be filed, to retrieve a summary of all entries relating to a given property, or an individual or a company. Such records extracts provide details of any sale, mortgage, charge, or title transfer. This includes transaction dates and value as well as the current owner's surname and date of birth. The initial search can be based on the presumed owner's details, or the property's location.

- A further application, to obtain a copy of the property's deed can subsequently be submitted as necessary. Property deeds provide full particulars pertaining to a specific transaction e.g. sale or title transfer following a gift, or a succession.
