THE SOUTHERN RESIDENT ORCAS ARE ON THE BRINK OF EXTINCTION πŸ¬πŸ’”πŸ¬.
So much has been said, and so very, very little has been done to avoid it, Governor Inslee. With 2 more orcas showing signs of starvation, I don't have to remind you what's at stake here. If implemented, the Orca Task Force recommendations are going to destroy the only chance of survival the Southern Residents have. It is an acknowledged fact that humans need food to survive: so why it's so difficult to understand that the same principle applies to all the living creatures we share this planet with? I'm appalled that this is happening, that the OTF has deliberately ignored the obvious: none of the recommendations they've submitted to you are going to work, if the Southern Resident orcas keep starving to death because of food deprivation. What does the name Orca Task Force stand for anyway, if most of its members have done everything but protecting these critically endangered orcas? Isn't it enough we have politicians that have declared war on Mother Nature, stripping away federal protections from endangered species, and ignoring what scientists have been telling us for decades. So here I am once again, asking you and all those involved, to rise above government interest and without any further delay, to please restore wild Chinook salmon runs in the Snake River Watershed by breaching the 4 Lower Snake River Dams in 2018. It's the only sensible, sustainable long term solution to save the remaining 74 Southern Resident orcas 🐬, and the wild Chinook salmon 🐟 they depend on 🐬🐟🐬🐟🐬.
And to all of you out there that love the Southern Resident orcas πŸ™πŸΌπŸ¬, I humbly ask you to not give up 🐬🐟🐬. Keep calling Governor Jay Inslee at 1-360-902-4111, keep sending email at https://bit.ly/2F7AWDN . We need to keep fighting for the Southern Resident orcas: WE ARE THEIR VOICE πŸ¬πŸ’™πŸ¬.

This is my latest, but not my last, email sent to Washington State Governor Jay Inslee.

"Dear Governor Inslee,
I'm one of the many people that have been writing and calling your office on behalf of the Southern Resident Orcas . We have helplessly seen our hopes crushed by the latest recommendations the Orca Task Force has put on your table: the culling of pinnipeds and the 3-5 years moratorium on whale watching. In all honesty, there are science deniers in the Orca Task Force that should've never been part of it to begin with. Some of these people never had the well being of the orcas in mind, and they surely don't have their best interest at heart. These recommendations don't give the Southern Resident Orcas the salmon they need in the immediate future, nor allow the recovery of healthy Chinook salmon runs in the Snake River Watershed. These magnificent creatures are dying of starvation right before our eyes, and the OTF is doing nothing to prevent it. If implemented, the OTF recommendations are going to destroy the only chance of survival the Southern Residents have, and block a steady flow of revenue that comes from the Salish Sea whale watching tourism. And with the culling of pinnipeds, these measures are going to cause food shortage to the mammal eating Bigg's orcas. There's no winner here dear Governor: not the people, nor the orcas. There's a trail of money that goes straight to the industries that profit from preventing wild Chinook salmon recovery, as Dr. Ken Balcomb wrote in his letter. Just like pipelines, fish farms are an environmental disaster that are ridiculously expensive to maintain, and aren't sustainable: they will sent contaminants in the Salish Sea, alter its already delicate ecosystem, and sicken the beautiful and diverse marine wildlife that live in these dark blue waters. I wasn't born and raised in the Pacific Northwest: I'm just an adopted child of this land, but I love it with all my heart! And I love the Southern Resident orcas. Please breach the 4 lower Snake river dams, to restore healthy King salmon runs, and save the remaining 74 Southern Resident orcas from extinction: it is the only sensible, sustainable and long term solution. I realize we are asking you to take bold action, but as Emily Dickinson said: "Fortune befriends the bold".
My best regards. Giulia C. Β©

The Orca Task Force has released the updated draft recommendations on October 24th, after the meetings of October 17 and 18.
As always, the proposal to BREACH THE 4 LOWER SNAKE RIVER DAMS is not in the draft. Let's remind everyone that only 5% of the power comes from those obsolete and illegally built dams. Please, take the time to read all these recommendations.
In particular Draft Recommendation 9 and Draft Recommendation 6.
Draft Recommendation 9: Determine whether the removal ( NOT THE BREACHING) of the 4 Lower Snake Rriver dams would provide benefit to the Southern Resident orcas. I got to give it to them: these people are relentless in pursuing their plan, carefully choosing the words that are most convenient to them. So, let's break it down a little bit, for those of you who just recently joined the fight to breach these obsolete dams, to save the starving endangered 74 Southern Resident Orcas, and the endangered Chinook salmon they depend on. The REMOVAL of the dams cost is beyond outrageous: it would take years just to start the project, and it would approximately cost $4 billion. The study that they are trying to push again, has been already done, and wasting time one more time would cause these orcas to reach the point of no return. The BREACHING of the 4 Lower Snake River Dams under the 2002 EIS Alternative 4, would approximately cost $340 million, could start by the end of 2018/the first few months of 2019 and be completed by 2020. As Dr. Ken Balcomb said many times, it's the best bang for the buck, and it's going to give these orcas the salmon they need as fast as possible.
Draft Recommendation 6: They want to increase hatcheries production, even though is outrageously costly and not sustainable, as Dr. Balcomb has said many times. Each year, the BPA ( Boneville Power Administration) spends about $300 million on fish mitigation through hatcheries, and you got to think of the total cost, particularly taking in consideration that it would take 3 to 10 years to get the salmon ready for the Southern Resident orcas via hatcheries. The TOTAL COST to breach the 4 Lower Snake River Dams is $340 millions, and it would provide healthy Chinook salmon runs in 18 months. You do the math! During these final days is crucial to keep putting pressure on elected official and government agencies to do what is necessary to save the Southern Resident orcas, keeping in mind that all the other recommendations are going to be useless if the Southern Resident orcas keep starving because of food deprivation. Please send comments to the orca task force if you haven't done that already, and keep calling Washington Governor Jay Inslee at 1-360-902-4111 or leave him an e-message at https://bit.ly/2F7AWDN . Ask him to use his political authority to breach the 4 lower Snake River dams and to put a ban on commercial and recreational salmon fishing in the Salish Sea.
Dr. Ken Balcomb recommendations keep getting side tracked by smooth talkers under the pretense of caring about these critically endangered salmon eating orcas, and unfortunately these people have complete control over the survival of the Southern Resident orcas. "I am not going to count them to zero: at least not quietly." Dr. Ken Balcomb - https://www.whaleresearch.com

Southern Resident Killer Whales🐬 are critically endangered, are starving and running out of time, because Chinook salmon, their main source of food, is very scarce. They need salmon to survive, and the illegally built 4 lower Snake River Dams are in the way of salmon recovery. Breach the Dams in 2018, to restore healthy salmon runs, and to save those magnificent creatures from extinction. Please visit https://www.whaleresearch.com/ , to check how you can help the SRKW🐬.

Please, sign this petition. Speak up for these dogs: tell Jack Daniel's that animal cruelty is unacceptable. Other companies have stopped sponsoring and supporting the Iditarod race, after learning about the abuse and the inhumane conditions these poor angels endure day-to-day.
