My fiance and I went to Bar Harbor to get away from Florida for a week. The staff at this hotel was wonderful and the location is unbeatable. The hotel was very helpful at setting up our day trips and had great ideas for all budgets. The rooms could use some updating, but overall an awesome vacation. I would definitely stay here again!

We just spent three nights at the Harborside Inn and found it to be incredible! There was no detail left unturned...the grounds were inpeccably groomed, the inn is beautifully decorated and in tip top condition and the views from every angle are wonderful. Our room was very spacious and beautifully appointed. Our room overlooked the marina and the view was so peaceful and serene. We found everyone to be so very helpful. I have stayed at many many inns/hotels and this has to rank right at the top for us. Many thanks.

The best part about this hotel is the location. It's right on the harbor and a very short walk to Main street and all the downtown shops & restaurants. The purpose of our trip was to visit Acadia National Park and use the shuttle service since we didn't have a car. It worked out great being close to all shuttles. Getting to and from the Bar Harbor airport is very convenient by shuttle (about 1 hour). We stayed in a King Studio oceanfront room (bottom floor). It had a view of the harbor, with a nice little outdoor area accessible through the sliding glass door. The view was mostly good, but can get annoying at times with the giant tour boats, and the occasional oversized yacht that may pull up and block your view entirely. Our room included a kitchenette (full size refrigerator, electric stove top, microwave, dish washer, descent sized granite countertop, dishes, utensils, pots & pans). The kitchenette looked like an afterthought just like everything else inside the room. Overall, it was very adequate and we used it daily for basic meals & drinks. The shower was marble tiled and enclosed with glass. It was very nice. The room was $500+/night and didn't meet expectations aesthetically. The interior decorator did a terrible job, and we found a number of things broken (kitchen drawer, lamp legs, toilet paper roll holder). A common theme if you read other reviews. The hotel property is amazing. It is very well kept, clean, and enjoyable to walk around. It looks just like the photos on their website. I have no comments good or bad about the staff. We had minimal contact with them. I requested a few extra bags of coffee and they delivered quickly. My wife and I stayed there for our anniversary. I purchased some truffles via their website to be in the room when we arrived. They were a few minutes late, but no big deal. A far bigger issue was the truffles being very firmly adhered to the plate. Apparently they were stored in a freezer prior to us receiving them. Fortunately we found a butter knife in the kitchen and used it as a crowbar to pry them loose. At $5/truffle we weren't going to waste any. Stay here for the location, and the great outdoor scenery. Keep your expectations very low for the room decor and you will be just fine.

This hotel markets itself as an upscale hotel but there is a lot to be desired. The room that we were given was a room meant for a handicapped person - it had a view of the parking lot, a really old TV circa 1980's, holes in the bathroom wall , a broken towel rack. a cheap shower head. Oh wait! The towels are worn and grey - ugg! It was an upscale motel from my perspective. I did complain and was given a choice of another room near the hotel lobby which was really noisy and high trafficked. I felt I was misled by the hotel's marketing. Very disappointed.

I'd like to report an insufferably negative experience with this hotel, service and staff, and have never even set foot on the premises. I made a reservation on their website clicking on 'Spa Packages', picked a room and included a specific time that we'd like to use the spa during our stay. I called several times to verify the time we would be spending in the Spa. Yesterday I called, and was told they may not be able get both of us in at the same time, was promised a call back. Today I called and got a message stating that the Spa was 'closed for the 2010 season'. I called several times, got different stories about whether it was opened or closed, was disconnected, and generally endured a frustrating experience from a facility claiming to be a 'Spa Resort'. The one positive thing about the rude, inept and incompetent staff did was to ask me if I was sure I was calling the right hotel, mentioning that the Bar Harbor Inn also has a Spa. I called them and was able to quickly and easily book an exceptional room and spa time. Needless to say I canceled the stay here, and I'd recommend everyone else just avoid it all together.

I just completed a 2 night stay in Room 2005; ocean front view "so called" to wrap up a 5 night Maine vacation. Upon checking in, I confirmed that the accomodations were ocean front and was told yes. Disapointingly, two thirds of the harbor view was obstructed by 2 large three story whale watching boats that always seemed to be in port the whole time we were there. The view was nothing like the hotel's website portrayed. It gets worse. I purchased 4 Bar Harbor Club passes for my family for our two day stay. That night my family went to the pool at the club. We were there perhaps a half hour when not one but two of the staff (one being the manager) politely told us that a private dinner was being held for a woman who wanted a sunset dinner on the patio with a few of her family and loved ones. We could stay of course but we needed to be quiet. I took this as a hint that perhaps we needed to move on. My family and I quietly gathered our belongings and exited the club. Day two was worse. After a 5 hour driving tour of Acadia National Park we decided to spend the whole afternoon at the Bar Harbor Club by enjoying the pool, game room, and perhaps some mid afternoon food and drink in the lounge. We arrived at 1:35 PM only to find out from the bar tender that the entire facility was shutting down in 25 minutes at 2:00 PM for a wedding and the facility was going to be used as a cocktail hour for 350 guests. We were told we could stay and use the pool but had to enter by walking around the building to the back. We could not use the main entrance. My wife and I thought how nice, 350 guests in formal attire and a bride in a white gown watching us in our swimming wear by the pool. We declined to stay. When my wife protested that we were never told of the private dinner or wedding when we paid $140 for our 2 day passes, we were offered half our money back as a consolation. I was willing to accept that until I went to retrieve my dress clothes and wallet from inside the club only to find I was locked out. At that point, I decided I wanted all my money back for the inconvenience caused me and my family. Only after we offered up our complaint to the hotel's general manager did we get all of our money credited back. Bottom line on the Bar Harbor Club. It is a waste of money. Their focus is not on the individual hotel client using the club amenities but on private parties and weddings. If you feel you do want to use the club, I would strongly suggest you ask them if they have any parties or weddings planned during your stay and if the facility will be closed to you as a result. A few other minor observations. My wife and I were having a drink at the bar in the hotel. We decided to order a second. The bartender asked us if we minded keeping our original glasses and busily set to work serving us again with the same glass. It is customary to change glasses with every drink, and I was amazed it happened there. We left after the second drink. Also, you would think for $470 per night charge for our ocean front room that we would get a complimentary morning newspaper but none came with the room. Finally upon check out, I thanked one of the two staff behind the desk for assisting me with the Bar Harbor Club fiasco the night before. Not one of them thanked me for my stay although I wished them both a pleasant day before we left. I was the guest and I thanked even the waiter for filling my water glass, perhaps I was expecting too much in return to have the same common courtesy extended to me. I would not come back here again as I am certain better accomodations could be found for the same or lower price. I am offering two stars for this review; one star for the location and another for the waitstaff at the hotel's restaurant (not the bar), La Bella Vita, otherwise this hotel was a huge disappointment and far over priced for the service and accomodations they offer.
