For Day 4 of the Self Love Tarot Challenge hosted by @oceanwildatelier I chose the Five of Pentacles to represent my best quality. I didn't choose it because I'm good at being destitute, because my Taurean nature makes me really bad at being poor, and pretty good at keeping myself from being there, but because I think I am good at sticking it out through tough situations. I won't abandon anyone, for any reason. If you want me, you got me.

The cards say my best quality is represented by The Wild Herdsmen, The Horned One, Cernunnos in Celtic lore, Pan and Dionysus in other cultures. In most tarot decks, this card is number XV, and would be The Devil. He often represents bondage and addiction, poor choices and poor planning in that form, but as the earthy Horned God of pre-Christian Europe, those notions aren't as applicable. He is a wild thing, cunning, not entirely predictable. He combines the baser animal instincts with sharp human reason, and he does what he wants when he wants. It is almost impossible to move or motivate me to do something I didn't want to do anyway, so I can see how that applies to me. As to his wilder nature, I am having a hard time seeing how that applies to me, but stagnation and refusal to move have been an emerging theme for me in the tarot challenges this month, and yesterday's Fool combined with today's Horned One make me see the energy is beginning to move.

Clearly my cards and I have very different ideas about what I need. I picked he Four of Swords- rest, healing, a quiet time to regroup and heal. My cards say The Fool. Go, jump, be wild, be free! This is a case of needing to leap and build wings on the way down. I am intrigued by the stark difference between these two cards. There is almost no common ground. I want to retreat in my cocoon, my advice is fling myself about.

Judgment can be a tricky card to read. As we use the word today, judgment can have a negative connotation. "I feel so judged right now." "If you judge people you have no time to love them." In tarot, the idea is more that we are being judged by the universe, and being asked to do more and do better, to learn from what we have experienced and be willing to change.

If I am being honest with myself, there is an element of judgey-ness to the way I love people. I want to say that it's not in a negative way, but of course I am invested in seeing the most positive interpretation of my cards. It's not so much judgment that I come away feeling negative about people, but that I see how problems arise and how they can be solved. Of course, I see this in my own life too, but implementing the change is hard, so of course if my loved ones feel I am judging them and acting like a know it all that doesn't make it easier to accept unsolicited advice.

I express love like the Judgment card because I feel like I am always calling and pushing people, including myself, to be the best version of themselves. I express love like the Judgment card in a way that people sometimes find hard to accept, and really I get that, because I too hate feeling judged, and feeling judged doesn't make me feel loved either, even when it's coming from a good place.
