I'm heading to Seattle for the boat show tomorrow. Will be there until Feb 6th, so I don't know how much time I'll have to check out my G+ buddies. In the mean time, I thought I'd post one more image.

Well, today has certainly been a day for weather. Rain, snow, rain, snow, rain and snow, wind gusts, more rain, oh and a 3 hour power outage... Ok, you get the picture LOL! But I'd thought I'd share this really fantastic new laptop desk I just bought yesterday. This thing really is FABulous! My laptop hasn't been overheating as I do actually use it on my lap (which the nice young fella at Best Buy seemed to be surprised about... d'oh). I was concerned that it wouldn't be big enough for my over sized Qosimio (Toshiba) but fear not! it works like a dream. And I'm so impressed that I'm actually posting a link to this contraption. Hope it's useful for some you out there :)

I've really been digging deep in the archives. This image I took with my old Nikon D70 when it was new!

So.... I've been off the radar for over 6 weeks. For good reason, though....I've been concentrating on quitting smoking. Yup...I'm one of those. And smoking was a big part of my photography whether I was lining up a shot, setting up my equipment, checking the location...blah blah blah... the smoking was part of it. So I sat at home.

This weekend has been the first time I've been out with my camera. The herring are running and the birds are lining up for the feast. This eagle was fishing a lot but was too far out for me to get the full frame shots I'd have preferred. So I've had to crop in quite tight...

Thanks Roberta! Yeah, the wind was pretty strong. I just wish that damn bird would have fished closer. I'd move to a better position he'd move away, I'd move again, he'd move... I don't think it had anything to do with me per se. I was far enough away on the beach... just my usual luck :)

My friend +Roberta Murray has kindly written up a short tutorial on how she uses/adds textures to her images. Have a look-see if you're interested. Please remember if you wish to leave a comment for her, do so on the original post :)

Working With Textures

There's been a lot of interest this week in my textures and some people have been asking how it's done, so I've written a short tutorial outlining how I add the textures to my images over on my blog.

I hope you'll find it useful. Feel free to share the post to your streams.

+Cindy Mead I'm tagging you because you had a lot of people on your stream asking about how to use textures. And +Gail Beerman I'm tagging you too because I'm not sure I'll get to the nuthatch photo this week; and I'm pretty sure Monet was one of the textures I used in that one.

My first submission for #zensunday curated by +Charlotte Therese Björnström , +Simon Kitcher , and +Nathan Wirth

There's this creek I pass sometimes when I take the back road home after work. I've been telling myself everytime I pass it that I have to stop and get some shots one day. That day finally happened last weekend. This creek flows through someone's property so I tapped on their door to seek permission to tramp about their yard. The lady was quite lovely and said to "have at it but watch out for the 30ft bluff and not to be swept away. It's nicknamed McGargle creek for a reason". I spent about a half hour down in her back yard treading very carefully and just avoiding the 30ft bluff....my Mom raised a smart girl, you know. When I left I made sure to let her know I was leaving and to thank her again. The point of this long ramble is that the lovely lady then told me I was the only one to have ever asked for permission to be tramping about her property. I must say that is something I'll never understand; people with cameras who don't respect the privacy and rights of homeowners who happen to be alongside/adjacent places that call out to photographers.

abby....

AKA... crabby abby, missy pissy, chunky monkey... But all of them add up to a sweet kitty (when she's not in a "mood"). Abby is 13 years old and she was a rescue cat along with her brother Lewis. I usually can't get images of any of my 3 cats because soon as the camera comes out, they scatter like leaves in a hurricane...yep, that fast. I got lucky with this one; she was actually asleep and my camera was very close to hand.

Introduction
I love photography... I'm also a frustrated painter so I've combined the two and now do mostly images that have been manipulated using layers and textures.

I work for a small company here in Nanaimo and we publish a boating book annually called Ports and Passes.  I'm the editor and graphic artist for said book and also do the bookkeeping and some webmastering (it's a new word...hee hee).
