Behind the Scenes of an Escape Room

Operating an escape room is filled with its own puzzles and challenges. At Escape Frenzy we are always working to improve the escape games and make our rooms more interesting and exciting. After the players have all left, and the rooms are reset and cleaned, there is always some new twists and turns to navigate. Here’s an interesting story that happened just a few weeks ago when our fabulous staff headed out the door for the night. Shortly after closing we got a call from our security company telling us that the back door alarm was going off. The police were on their way, even though we figured the door latch must not have engaged when the trash was taken out and the door must have blown open. Our manager was headed back to make sure everything was ok and lock the back door properly. In the meantime, one of the motion sensors went off on the security system. We pulled up our security cameras remotely and most of the space was dark. Not a second later, we saw the shadow of a figure go across one of the cameras. We quickly texted our manager and told them not to enter as someone was inside.

A moment after that another figure came into view on the cameras. It was a police officer with his flashlight drawn and his hand on his service revolver. Light switches are in a centralized location, so the police could not turn the lights on. They were wandering through our escape rooms with some bizarre and puzzled looks on their faces. Not the usual retail store or office building they are accustomed to. We texted our manager that the police were inside and she said that she had put on the Escape Frenzy hoodie so they would know she works there and was headed inside. As we looked back to the cameras, one of the cops had wandered into our CSI escape room. Of course the first things he stumbled upon was our realistic hand gun prop and he became noticeably agitated. As he turned the corner using his flashlight in the dark, he shined his light on Gloria, our realistic murder victim on the floor already chalk outlined. He was even more unsettled by seeing a dead body on the floor and of course our manager should be walking in soon (unannounced), in the dark, wearing a hoodie. Since we actually like our manager, we were fortunately able to get ahold of both her and the police so they did not have an unexpected encounter in the dark. So as you can see, the excitement never ends at Escape Frenzy.

A Valentine's Escape

Valentine’s Day is a day to let your loved ones know how much you care about them. Most people do this with a greeting card and some candy. This is certainly a nice sentiment, but not very memorable. However, if you want a Valentine’s Day that will not be forgotten, you need an experience that is unique, exhilarating, and memorable.

An escape room at Escape Frenzy can deliver all that and more. We hear all the time from guest how they have never had an experience like this before. People are talking for months about the puzzles, the clues, the excitement, and the escape. All right, escape games might be a little lacking in romance, but they can be the perfect pre-dinner event. You can reminisce at the restaurant later about all the fun you had at Escape Frenzy. If you want a Valentine’s Day that you guys won’t forget, start the day off playing an escape room.

Sometimes You Just Need An Escape

It’s been one of those weeks. You found out the overpass is closed on your way to work Monday morning and it took an extra 20 minutes to get there; every day. Monday night your mother needed you to come over and help her find the remote control; for the VCR she can’t rent tapes for anymore. Tuesday your son informed you that you need to make a diorama of the universe using Rice Chex; by tomorrow morning when he has to present to the class. Wednesday the dog ate a pound of hamburger thawing on the stove; package and all. Wednesday night just after you fell asleep the dog reproduced the hamburger; in the worst way imaginable. Thursday your spouse scored cheap airfare; for a weekend away with their friends. Friday actually went alright; except you kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Whether it’s been a tough day, a rotten week, or it’s just built up over time; sometimes you just need an escape. Since your spouse didn’t reserve you a cabana in the Keys with those airline tickets; it’s on you to plan some fun this weekend. The sitter is booked, the friends are ready to roll; time to go to Escape Frenzy. Escape the traffic, escape the kids, kennel the dog, forget your spouse; it’s time for an escape room. Book an escape game at WWW.ESCAPE-FRENZY.COM; now things are looking up.

ESCAPOLOGY

Escapology has long been the practice of escaping from restraints and other traps such as straitjackets, hand cuffs, coffins, barrels, steel boxes and more. Here are some of the best known escapologists in history. Dorothy Dietrich best known as the first and only woman to have performed the bullet catch in her mouth, and the first woman to perform a straitjacket escape while suspended hundreds of feet in the air from a burning rope. She was the first woman to break the glass ceiling for women in the field of escapes. Doug Henning, despite being Canadian, managed to gain prominence for performing the famous water torture escape on a live television special.

Newest on the scene has been Criss Angel with a series of amazing escapes that include straitjacket escapes, car crash escapes, and building implosion escapes. He may one day be the most memorable, but until then the award for the historical best still goes to the great Harry Houdini. Harry escaped handcuffs, a crate packed with nails, mail bags, riveted boilers, and even a barrel filled with beer. In 1973 he was the first to introduce the Chinese water torture where he would was suspended upside down into a water filled glass cabinet, requiring him to hold his breath for 3 minutes.

With iconic legends such as these to look up to is it any wonder that escape rooms sprang into existence giving the average Joe and Jane the opportunity to test themselves and seek their own glimmer of fame as they tackle one escape game after the next, trying to escape the room before failure can strike. Become a legend at Escape Frenzy where we will test your skills to solve our puzzles and breakout. Achieve stardom, even if it’s only in your own eyes. We all have to start somewhere. Book now at WWW.ESCAPE-FRENZY.COM; and you will be on your way to fame and fortune.

Escape Room - 2018 Resolution

Another year filled with promise, adventure, and hopefully success. Standing at the starting line of 2018, you believe anything is possible. After the ball dropped and we all squealed with delight and toasted the New Year, the future looked so bright. When you woke up Monday morning, grateful to have the day off to recover, 2018 was too bright on the eyes and for some of you smarting from that hangover. After closing the blinds, and showering off 2017’s regrets, it’s time to get realistic about what we can expect to achieve this year.

It’s cloudy, dark, and freezing outside in January. As depressing as that is, we certainly cannot be expected to give up drinking and food for the New Year. Plus, with all the leftover beer and snacks from the weekend, it is probably best to resolve to not let good things go to waste. Maybe we can even recycle a few of the cans. These New Year’s resolutions are starting to look doable. What else can we conquer?

Getting out of debt sounds great in theory (and fantasy), but perhaps we can simply resolve to save money. I heard the after Christmas sales are still going on through the end of the week. Getting a job promotion would be awesome but with half of your coworkers being kiss ups, perhaps we should simply resolve to make it all the staff meetings. With all those new levels on Candy Crush to win, the conference room lighting will be perfect. Spending less time on Facebook should be a slam dunk according to all my new friends on Instagram. Getting organized may be pushing the envelope unless we define that as color coding each bag of M&M’s. Everyone knows the green ones taste best, and we will save those for last. Boom! Delayed gratification; check!

Lastly, we need to improve relationships and communication. Counseling and therapy are time consuming and expensive with my high deductible; however, a few escape games with my friends and family should take care of things. We get to practice communicating as we solve puzzles and clues, and having a blast together always improves relationship. Escape Frenzy will take care of this resolution for you.

Book your escape room now at WWW.ESCAPE-FRENZY.COM and get your 2018 New Year’s resolutions taken care of.

Escape Room for the New Year

The holidays are a whirl wind of frenzy and activity. You can still taste Thanksgiving and just as the indigestion settles down, Christmas has arrived. Going to the company party, buying gifts, making plans with relatives, and the big day came before you knew it. Just when you think you can relax a little, you realize you have New Year’s a week later. Who was in charge of planning when they laid these out on the calendar all those centuries ago?

Ok, so what do we need to do in order to get ready for New Year’s? Well, actually not all that much. Text a few friends, confirm the location, buy some snacks and drinks, maybe some caffeine to make sure you make it until midnight. Shoot, we aren’t actually getting together until 7-8pm to hang out and wait for the countdown. Suddenly this doesn’t seem so overwhelming. In fact, what are you supposed to do all day until 8pm? Now it seems like most of the day may go to waste. Unless of course you want to head into the New Year having a blast.

In that case, just hop online and book an escape room at the one and only; Escape Frenzy! We have the best escape games in town and we are open New Year’s Eve. Start that day out strong and have some fun stories to tell that night. We are even open New Year’s Day in case you don’t make it till midnight and don’t need the entire next day to recover. New Year’s Day is even more boring, so you will definitely want to come try to escape the room on Monday. That’s ushering in the New Year the best way possible.

Book your escape game now at WWW.ESCAPE-FRENZY.COM and get 2018 started off with some awesome memories.

Escape Rooms - A Normal Holiday Tradition - Part 2

After this month’s installment of bizarre holiday traditions, we found some more oddities that will make you feel normal and glad to live in America where singing about a fat guy flying around in a sleigh seem pretty reasonable. In the lovely country of Norway, which has ancestral heritage for many Minnesotans, it seems that on Christmas Eve the good citizens all go out of their way to hide the brooms. Is it because they deserve a break from cleaning for the holiday? Of course not. It’s because witches and evil spirits come out on Christmas Eve and naturally witches are always looking for a good broom. As an added measure the men folk will fire warning shots into the air to help scare off those evil spirits, a known safe practice for your neighbors, and evil spirits are of course terrified of being mortally wounded by gun fire. You have to admire tradition over logic to appreciate this one.

Just a bit south the good people of Austria, Germany, and Hungary have found a great deterrent for mouthy hoodlums. Santa of course is there to reward all the good children, but remember he knows who has been naughty and nice. For those on the naughty list it seems Santa calls in some mythical muscle from the not too far off Transylvania where there all sorts of demonic creatures. Mind your P’s and Q’s children or Santa will have his counterpart Krampus stop by for a visit. Krampus of course is a beast-like creature who shows up in order to punish the bad kids. And if the terrifying legend isn’t enough to keep your brats in line, the good folks of Austria, Romania, and Bavaria actually dress up like Krampus and roam the streets scaring the crap out of children. Apparently some cultures have a time tough time transitioning past Halloween.

If you want to breakout of the usual holiday routine, but not go too far off the beaten path, try to escape the room at Escape Frenzy. Even our Haunted House room is not as scary Krampus. Book an escape game now at WWW.ESCAPE-FRENZY.COM and make this holiday season even more fun and memorable.

Another Holiday Party - Really?

Even if the food and drink is good, you find yourself dreading yet another holiday party. Not even egg nog spiked with the good stuff is going to make another party bearable. You have discovered how scrooge and the Grinch came into existence. Surely they were meant to suffer one holiday gathering after the next until their spirit was broken and henceforth boycotted all such festivities with vehement distain.

Your teeth are set on edge as you hear the same Christmas music track playing as you walk in the front door of the next party your significant other has dragged you to. You stare at the table of snacks and can’t fathom how many treats crushed up candy canes can be put into. You gaze out amongst the horrible sweaters in the crowd, and that wasn’t even the theme of this one. Your neighbor suggests a group go caroling and you are grateful that you are not at home to have to hear them. You look for a place to hide as the old guy at the end of the block is running around with a mistletoe trying to kiss everyone and gender doesn’t seem to be a discriminating factor for him.

There is still two weekends left in December and necessity is the mother of invention. Before you get wrangled into going to another holiday party, you better take the bull by the horns and throw your own holiday party doing something fun and enjoyable. Call up your friends and family and invite them out to an escape game at Escape Frenzy. The thrill of the hunt keeps conversation focused and on track. No time to listen to Aunt Betty tell about her holiday quilt she has been sewing. We’re on a mission and the mission is to have fun. Fill your weekend with an escape room and you will spare yourself another holiday party. You can let them wear Santa hats to the escape room just to have the theme covered.

Book your escape game now at WWW.ESCAPE-FRENZY.COM and spare yourself another piece of fruit cake that cannot be swallowed down.

Escape Rooms - A Normal Holiday Tradition

The good folks at Escape Frenzy would love to encourage you to start a family holiday tradition that might actually turn out to be pretty normal relatively speaking. It seems there are some seriously bizarre holiday rituals around the world that really make you sit back and wonder how our species ever reached the top of the food chain. For instance, the good folks of Wales have the jolly tradition of Mari Lwyd. Apparently, anytime between Christmas and the end of January you might hear a knock at your front door and discover a group of people singing. Sounds like caroling you think? Oh, did we forget to mention that someone dresses up as a horse and completed their costume using an actual dead horse skull. It seems this merry festivity is supposed to get you rewarded with food and drink. Try that in America and we might conclude that you already rewarded yourself with too much drink, or you might be the recipient of someone’s Taser while they call the police.

In Caracas Venezuela everyone wakes up Christmas morning to the sound of fire crackers going off in the early morning hours. Naturally, this is your signal to strap on your roller skates and head down to church for morning mass. Roads are closed off so you won’t have to worry about on-coming traffic as you lose control going downhill to give thanks for all your blessing. On the bright side it makes going to the front of the church for your communion a whole lot more fun and entertaining. So, now you can see where doing an annual escape room for the holidays sounds pretty reasonable, sane, and mundane by comparison. Breakout of the norm and start a new tradition and try to escape one of our rooms. Sorry no roller skates allowed. Book a game now at WWW.ESCAPE-FRENZY.COM and have fun this holiday season.
