I recently went here for a facial and I can easily say that is was the worst facial I have ever received. From the time I walked through the door to the time I left. The esthetician never introduced herself. I filled out all of their required forms, but she never reviewed them or asked any questions about medications that I take, skin concerns etc. At the beginning of the facial, she turned on the steam and had it on the left side of my face from mid cheek to ear - I assumed it was just heating up and that she would move it to a position above my entire face at some point, but that never happened. She never once looked at my skin under the the lighted magnified lamp in the room. So she relied on the dimmed mood lighting to determine what my skin care needs were? Again, I kept thinking it was going to happen - often times it is after the cleaning that this is done, but no, it never was looked at. She never explained what she was doing. Don't get me wrong, I like to relax and not converse while having a facial, but I have always had the esthetician tell me in a soft voice what she was applying or doing as she did it. Finally, she announced that my service was over. My face felt no different from when I arrived. I did give her a tip - though a very miserly one and she actually seemed surprised that I did - so was she aware of her inadequacy in performing a quality facial? I wouldn't suggest going to Avalon Med Spa - take your money somewhere that you have heard positive feedback. I lost an hour of my life and some hard earned money looking for a relaxing spa experience that never came to be.

This must be the worst spa in the world! I paid $75 for a Groupon for my wife who was treated as a criminal today in their Tampa office. The Groupon was for a $240 value package and they told her that she would only receive a facial. She made an appointment at 1 and waited for almost 2 hours in the lobby and nobody helped her. Nobody knew the status and she asked for the Groupon back and they told her they could not find the coupon and they already submitted it. There would be no refund! Then they said they would not give her any service and demanded that she leave or they were going to call the police! We are going to sue them in Small Claims. Update: The Heather review below is obviously another fake review from Avalon. It is probably Ginger herself. They are worried about their scores so they want to bring up the average. So called "Heather" was not a bystander because there were no bystanders there, only Ginger and the receptionist. I was only 5 minutes late, not 30 minutes late. And I do not curse in public and never had in my life. The receptionist could not give back my Groupon but wanted to give me the so-called free Spa day on another appointment. I waited for 2 hours when I was skipped and all I wanted was my money back. I do not want to go through this awful pain again with the Spa. And I actually called the police on them with their rude behavior. Do not believe them? Just google the other review sites, citysearch, yelp, etc., and you will see many terrible reviews on this place. I actually got a voice message from the company recently saying they are under new management (again?) and want to discuss what happened. Why? I would never go back here again. Stay far away!

I have to tell my story and yes it sucks! I paid over 2000.00 To Coast Laser they told me I had to shave my face before I came in each visit. I was 2 treatments in and they went out of business leaving me stuck with a hairy face they were not even using a strong enough setting for the laser.. Another company took over (Avalon Med Spa and Laser Center) Amberly Dr, Tampa, FL well they said they would honor the agreement that Coast laser had made with me but, I started paying 70.00 a visit and when I could not afford it any more they would not make a deal with me and treated me like Julia Roberts in Pretty woman they told me I was not the type of person for their spa I never want to feel that way again and now I look like a Sasquatch because of this!!!

I had a horrible experience with their office manager, ginger. She accidentally booked me at the wrong time, so according to their schedule I was 1 hour late and they were going to have me reschedule. She walked away and had her other staff members deal with the issue. I called the owner to complain 3 times and never received a return call. They promised that someone would call, but I'm still waiting and it has been 1 month. If they would implement a confirmation call to their scheduling, this would have been solved prior to my appointment. Similarly, my sister went for service and they failed to notify her that 50% of her services were not going to happen because someone called in sick. My sister would have rescheduled if she knew that prior to arrival. Poor management too overwhelmed with the offers they are posting to bring in more customers. Save your money, go somewhere that you can get great service and relax.

********BEWARE******** April 7, 2012 Dear Dr. Aaron Schlau M.D, I am writing regarding a horrid experience, I had recently at your medical establishment. I went to Avalon Medical Spa and Laser on Amberly Dr. in New Tampa on Thursday March 22, 2012 at 4:00 pm. The Candela Gentlemax Laser was used on my pigmented skin. I was told this laser worked on pigmented skin, as I inquired before I bought the living social deal. Having had laser treatment before, I was told I need to have the YAG laser used. As the treatment commenced I experienced immediate discomfort. The young lady administering the treatment turned the laser down. We then proceeded with the treatment. Immediately following the treatment, I had no issues. She told me to exfoliate daily. The next two days, I felt extreme discomfort. Finally, Saturday 3/24 I looked at my underarm and found what appeared to be a severe burn from the laser treatment. I took a photo (which is enclosed). I immediately sent an email along with the photo to your establishment (also enclosed). I then called and was told to come in to have the doctor look at it. When I got there both the doctor and the lady who originally helped me looked at my underarm and explained that it was not a burn from the laser, “it was normal reaction.” Not understanding how this could be, I went to see another doctor on 3/26. This doctor then confirmed that it was indeed a burn. I was given a prescription for Cortisone cream. I have also enclosed the medical records. I was hoping this issue was now resolved as the burnt skin eventually fell off. I have now enclosed a picture of my skin currently. I have permanent discoloration, and scaring. This issue was never handled properly by your establishment. I will not be returning for any further treatment here. I want to be refunded for the treatment I have already paid for. I expect a response to this letter within 7 days of you receiving it. Thanks in advance for your prompt response and handling of this issue.

Loved my experience! my aesthetician did an excellent job. She explained everything she did, and made recommendations about what I could do in my everyday life to improve my skin and complexion. Most other places are only concerned with what product they can sell you for $40, but I didn't have that experience. In fact, I had a better customer service experience here than at some of the pristine spas where I paid $150 for a facial. And don't get me started on my massage for only 49 dollars the lady who did my massage worked out all my knots and even ones i wasn't even aware of i can wait till next month when i come back!!!

I had multiple problems with this place, and the owner did not do anything to make it better. I booked a facial with a complimentary 30 minute back massage. When I asked the esthetician about the back massage, she said she couldn't do it (the woman who does the back massages as her promo was sick, and so this woman filled in, and she has a different promo). She went to ask the owner what to do. She said she would do a brow wax or back facial at a later date since she had to be somewhere after my facial. That sounded fine to me. However, Rose (the owner) told me that I had to book another service to get my freebie. By the way, I was not told that I wasn't getting a massage until I asked in the middle of my facial. I would have rescheduled my appointment had I known. Ultimately, Rose was asking me to pay for 2 services in order to get the one free service I booked in the first place. I would have booked a much cheaper service if it wasn't for the free back massage! When I complained, she stood her ground, and now I am letting the credit card company take care of it for me. I also had to wait 50 minutes until my appointment! This, after I got a call to come in 30 minutes later for my appointment. Instead of rescheduling, or being honest about how long it would take for me, she made me wait an unacceptable length of time. The one positive was the esthetician -- she was really good. Ultimately though, my experience was awful. I'll never go back.
