I recently had cataract and lens replacement surgery on both eyes. I can not say enough good things about the entire team! The office team was very pleasant, helpful, and professional. My Optometrist and General Doctor both said that Dr. Schanzlin is the best and they were right! Dr. Youssefzadeh calls to follow up on the day of surgery were very much appreciated. I strongly recommend to anyone considering this type of surgery to contact Dr Schanzlin as you only want the best for your eyes.

Great experience with great results. Every member of the staff from my initial appointment through my surgery and follow-up appointments have been professional, helpful, and eager to please. Dr. Schanzlin and his team are top-notch and met all of my high standards.

I recently had Lasik surgery performed by Dr. Schanzlin. After 17 years of wearing prescription lenses I now have 20/15 vision. Dr. Schanzlin and his entire staff were wonderful and I would strongly recommend the team at Gordon-Weiss Schanzlin for anyone considering corrective eye surgery.

Dr. Schanzlin and Dr. Elizabeth Viriya were outstanding care providers. Wait time: 1.5 hour consultation visit, about an hour at the surgery center total (10 minute surgery), and 15 minute post-op visit. Excellent. Bedside manner: I chose not to take the Valium so I was still a little nervous during the surgery, and both doctors told me what was about to happen before it did. They kept talking to me the whole time as I requested. ("Now your vision should be blurry, now 8 seconds of pressure, now your eye should be able to see and feel better...") Actual results: I see 20/20 and 20/15 in right and left eye, respectively, 1 day after the procedure. I had a little pain and self-treated with Advil, didn't even need the Vicodin. If you work in a hospital tell them and they will give you different antibiotics for MRSA coverage. Now I have a bit of sandy-eye sensation but nothing more and no pain! The Surgery: it felt like pressure (not pain but still discomfort) for about 20 seconds per eye on the first laser, and nothing on the second laser. It's a little freaky to see your vision go black in each eye but this is entirely normal and quickly your vision comes back. I had bad pain only for 2 hours after the surgery and then just sandy-eye sensation. And I refused the Vicodin for personal reasons so I'm sure the "bad pain" wouldn't have been that bad if you just take the drug they give you. In summary...would recommend this office and these physicians to literally anyone who asks. As a medical student myself I am very careful about my own healthcare and especially surgical needs, so you can assure yourself that someone more neurotic than you (me) liked this place very much.

Gordon-Weiss-Schanzlin Vision Institute Located in La Jolla, CA in San Diego County Is the most well organized company that you will ever find. They have the best quality of service, they are very professional and very friendly.Everyone who works here really makes you feel welcomed and treats you with the best customer service like no other company ever will. I would have to say At this Vision Institute there patient Care Coordinator - Jamie Quenga,is very outstanding. She really knows her information and is very professional. I got my lasik surgery done by Michael Gordon, MD on June 24,2015.. He truly is one of the best when it comes to lasik surgery. For having many years of experience under his belt, he truly knows his profession. He makes you feel at ease and makes you feel secure in knowing that you are in great hands and well taken cared of. All Though there are other doctors at this facility, Hes is truly one of the best that i would highly recommend. I had my surgery on June 24,2015. I've had nothing but outstanding results ever. It feels wonderful knowing that i do not have to put on my glasses just to be able to see at day or night. It Brings me to tears knowing that when i can wake up every morning that i can see the world so clearly of how it is meant to be seen. No more headaches or straining. I'm so grateful that I have gotten this opportunity that most others cant have and i'm very thankful In Conclusion, I would highly recommend - Gordon- Weiss Schanzlin Vision Institute Jeremiah - Oceanside, CA

For anybody who s tired of the expence of replacing glasses or the frustration of looking for your glasses let alone of any discomfort your eye glasses cause I cant say enough about this LASER Surgery. I will have excellent vision from this time forward and had absolutely no discomfort or pain from surgery. I will never face cataract surgery now that lense s have been replaced. I have less time ahead of me then I have behind me so why not enjoy my vision to the fullest.

Terrific experience in every regard. The entire staff and operation at GWS institute is as professional as any I've ever seen. Everyone is exceptionally friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. From the scheduler, Hilarie, the check in receptionist, Kathy, the patient care coordinator, Jaimie, to technical specialists Kelly, Julio and Patrice, everyone on the team was impressive, It was impossible not to feel confident that I was in the right hands. And, of course, it goes without saying that Dr. Schanzlin was at the top of that pyramid. His CV speaks for itself, but he was also exceptionally personable and easy going and took all the time I needed to explain the procedure and answer all of my questions. He ultimately erased any possibility for lingering anxiety about the procedure The procedure and the post-op experience went exactly as described. There were no surprises, except for the post-op photo with Dr. Schanzlin and the flowers presented at my follow-up session the day after LASIK. I know it will take several weeks for the eyes to realize the full effect of the LASIK, but Based on my experience, my wife has gained the confidence to have the procedure performed as well. I can enthusiastically recommend the team at GWS Vision Institute to anyone considering any form of refractive procedure.

I just had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Gordon and completing my Lasik procedure on 2/20/2015. I am so overwhelmingly happy with the results of the procedure and the recovery time. Dr. Gordon was fantastic! She walked me through all of the steps as she was doing the procedure so that I always felt comfortable and knew what to expect and what was happening. My recovery time has been a week and 1 day, and I have never been able to see as well as I can today. I always had issues with my contacts either being blurry or halos everywhere. With my new eyes I don't have any issues except at night I do still have slight halos. But, it's nothing worse than if you have water on your windshield and are looking out through. The best part of the procedure is that you can still be active. I am training in MMA so recovery time was my first question. I only had to wait on a portion of my training while my eyes have been healing. I am in the gym full time starting today again. I can't wait to get back with no issues or worries about a contact popping out of my eye. I am so happy with how everything went throughout the procedure and the week after, so far. :0) Thank you Dr. Gordon and the staff at Gordon-Weiss-Schanzlin Vision Institute for giving me the gift of sight and being able to live my life to the absolute fullest again! I can never thank you all enough!

Moth eyes inspired the camera lens! Moth’s eyes are covered by an anti-glare coating that allows the maximum amount of light to be absorbed while reflecting very little. This allows moths to travel undetected by predators at night.

Biomimicry, or emulating nature’s time-tested strategies, led to studying the eyes of the moth to bring about a variety of innovations, such as the camera lens, solar panels and iPhone screens!

LOOKING GOOD DENNIS!

Dennis was born with a condition called strabismus, which makes it look like he’s cross-eyed but doesn’t affect his eyesight.

His goofy appearance made finding potential owners difficult, but he is now celebrating a year of happiness in his new loving home!
