If it swells...

NASA’s Cassini spacecraft just produced the first surf report for Punga Mare, a hydrocarbon sea on the surface of Titan, Saturn’s largest moon. The 2cm ripples won’t get most boarders out of bed, but stay tuned, Titan’s complex weather patterns may be changing.

The Simpson make it into Nature again.

Do the sins of the fathers pass down to their children?
'Transgenerational epigenetic inheritance', well known in plants, has in the past few years been documented in rodents and humans as well. But the subject remains controversial, in part because it harks back to the discredited theories of Jean-Baptiste Lamarck, a 19th-century French biologist who proposed that organisms pass down acquired traits to future generations. This deeply researched Nature News feature gives a broad overview of where the field is now.

Is it more important that an evil person be put to death than a sick person be given a chance at life?

US state executions are threatening the supply of anaesthetics used in millions of surgical operations in the country. Shortages of anaesthetic drugs usually used in lethal injection, the most common method of execution, are forcing states to find alternative sedatives. But the drugs they are turning to - like Propofol, a general aneasthetic that is used up to 50 million times a year in the US, are made in Europe - and the European Union forbids the export of medicines and devices that could be used for capital punishment or torture...

Lookout!

The H7N9 avian-influenza virus that has killed more than 100 people in China in the past year has for the first time been detected in a province bordering Vietnam, raising the prospect that the disease may take hold across Asia and beyond. Read more:

As the IPCC prepares to launch its next report on the future of the Earth's climate this week, here's what researchers know about sea level rise and climate change in one graphic...
And here's the feature that graphic's from, explaining why scientists have struggled to project how fast, how high and how far the oceans will rise this century.

Every year, around this time, we get an uptick in readers for this story. Wishful thinking/googling perhaps?
