Excellent food but less than excellent service (slow and inattentive, though knowledgeable about the menu and friendly). Decor is nice but a but loud in the dining room.

I had the good fortune of dining last night at Veritas. Everything about Veritas is first rate. From the minute you enter and are warmly greeted by the hostess, through the cocktails, meal, wine selection and onto dessert, you are experiencing the very best that a great restaurant in New York City has to offer. Even better is that all of this is accompanied by a warm, intimate and relaxed atmosphere that is not too formal, but not too casual either. The preparations from Chef Pugin's kitchen are gastronomic dreams. Flavors are delicately layered together and come alive with subtle delicacy in every bite. They are culinary works of art in an Impressionistic tradition. Even better than the great food and encyclopedic wine list is the warmth, knowledge and friendliness of the staff. Everyone works together to make your experience one of the very best evenings you can have. Their attentiveness to detail is truly impressive. Veritas is easily the new "Go To" place for that special, romantic evening or when you need to impress that important client. Did I mention I liked it...

the wine list is truly spectacular -- and not just at the high end. we ordered a $35 bottle and were well pleased: with the advice that led us to the choice, and the result that ran down our throats. makes finding out about wine a pleasure. don't forget:

pricey, but worth it. the bass with lobster emulsion was the best thing i've had. there's a lot of hype, especially regarding the wine list, and it is all well deserved.

terrific experience. first time to the restaurant & we'll be back. the food was creative & fresh. the servers' knowledge of the menu items & ingredients was impressive. while the wine list can be daunting, the sommelier was a tremendous help in pairing wines with both our meals & desserts. all amounted to a wonderful evening.

terrific food in a sophisticated space. lobster salad, porcini cod and venison are all excellent. desserts are pure comfort and out of this world. try the rice pudding with brandied cherries or panna cotta.

The evolving wine list is the star here, which barely outshines the stunning Seared Scallops, Beef in Transition, Wooly Pig, and the Warm Apple Clafouti.
