When restaurateur Scott Harris decided to open his latest restaurant concept, he and the team of chefs from Francesca’s Restaurants did their research. Although already experts in their own right for rustic, Italian cuisine in Chicago, the chefs traveled across the country, eating and tasting to discover how chefs nationwide defined this cuisine. Inspired by their travels, the team is proud to introduce the new wine bar and restaurant: Davanti Enoteca in Little Italy.

Davanti Enoteca carries the themed cuisine of simple Italian fare throughout the décor of the rustic wine bar and restaurant. Exposed brick wine walls display the bottles that guests can enjoy at their table.

In addition to multiple high-top and table seating, the bar made of 180-year-old refurbished barn wood houses frozen taps for local beer and  for chilled house-infused vodka. Additional décor details include lighting made from old glass milk jugs and potato sacks and patchwork wall coverings of the fronts of old wine boxes.

As for the menu, small plate starters include selections of vasi (jars of spreads) and boards (tableside presentations of dishes such as the mascarpone polenta and ragu of the day). Larger shareables will include pastas such as Uovo in Raviolo ‘San Domenico’ (giant ravioli, ricotta, egg, spinach), pizzas like Pizza della Fattoria (farmed egg, potato, pork belly, scallions, asiago, and béchamel) and entrées such as Spada Davanti (grilled swordfish, brussel spouts, pancetta, Calabrian chili).

I was honestly never this disappointed in my illustrious life. We searched for so long to find a place to park in Downtown, and when we settled on a restaurant with a "4.7 out of 5" rating, we thought we made the right choice. We were never so wrong in our lives. Our waiter greeted us about 3 times all dinner, and took 20 minutes to get us bread after forgetting that we needed any. Our resolve was not yet broken, but soon splintered upon the arrival of our "food". The salmon dish was disappointing, and the pizza was more like a rubber shaped circle with mushrooms scattered all over it. Our waiter kept it consistent, and accompanied the bad food with equally bad service. This review system is flawed in permitting a minimum of a 1 star rating, 1 more than it deserved on that night. Food lovers and tourists beware, Devanti Enoteca is not the place you want to go.

Outstanding! The wait staff was super! I had the linguini with sea urchin and clams and it was simply wonderful! My bride had the mushroom pizza with leeks and it also was delicious. We tried their egg specialty and also was amazing! We will certainly return!

The brunch menu here is fantastic and the bloody mary is the best in town. Try the hash made with bell peppers, pork belly and poached eggs. Then, add a side of sausage for the whole table to share.

One word: focaccia. That's all you need to order; that's all you need to go there for. Focaccia with honeycomb on top will remind you that there is a God in heaven and he enjoys good food. The atmosphere is whimsical with the welcoming Italian vibe. I've never had a server who hasn't been on-point and passionate about the food they're serving. And the wine/cocktail choices..? Your liver will thank me for giving it some good substance. Be sure to try their pizzas (Bianca is my favorite, and yes that's the name), but just save room for the focaccia. In case you can't tell, that's really all I care about.

I ate here a month ago and I'm still thinking about the delicious Davanti burger. It is the best I think I've ever had at a restaurant. The Davanti burger raised the bar so high, it'll be hard for another burger to touch this standard. Can't wait to explore San Diego again!

Excellent!! Had a enjoyable time with friends here, we actually never made it past the appetizers. They were so good, I think we tried them all.
