The Mineshaft used to be a fairly decent and popular bar with Long Beach's Leather and Levis crowd. Located smack-dab in the middle of the Gay Ghetto and bar row, it was a convenient place to stop along the pub crawl or to spend the night - depending on your mood... Plenty of room to move about, lots of places to sit and watch or to be watched... pool tables, darts, pinball machines and more... a dj booth with a dj (some nights) and a very "old towne saloon" feel inside. Over the years, though, the Leather/Levi crowd has ... thinned ... and the bar has become far more neighborhood and mellow. Not a bad thing, either... But with "The Crypt" (Long Beach's Leather and "adult toy" store), some of the leather and butch crowd stays on. The drinks are well priced and well made. I've never felt "ripped off" there - and that's with well over 10 years of visits! The staff is often friendly and caring - wanting you to have a good time and enjoy the party... parking is non-existent - streets only - and can be quite difficult to find, as the gay ghetto is full of many "multi-occupant" buildings, with many dating from the 50s, when parking was less of a drama than it is today. It's very easy to have to spend a half an hour just circling the blocks, looking for parking... The lack of parking means you should take a cab or prepare to explore some of the other bars and restaurants and stores located within just a few blocks of The Mineshaft... With a few bars just a few steps in either direction, it's easy to make a night of pub crawling... The Mineshaft is a venerable old bar, much like the neighborhood, and continues to thrive as some move away and others come in to take their place... But with all the change, The Mineshaft continues to go on, stable, solid and ready for action... You won't feel shafted at the Mineshaft!

A really fun place with an interesting mix of people. The bartenders are attentive and quick to serve; even when the place is packed you'll receive prompt service. The jukebox has music suitable for most tastes, and there is small patio outback for smokers.
