Brick vs Glass

To those who feel that the aesthetics of Glass are going to be its downfall and that the geeks of Silicon Valley are deluding themselves.  You seem to be suffering from very short memories.

With the new Glass software update, XE5, navigation works without the myGlass app.  It seems like Glass does have GPS built in, but that it only updates occasionally, probably to conserve battery.  For turn by turn it still seems like you need an Android phone and the myGlass app.

I was quoted in the San Jose Mercury that I played cyborg games when I was younger.  I didn't play cyborg games, I played Cyberpunk 2020 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk_2020) and Shadowrun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowrun).  I also watch Akira (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_(film)) almost weekly.  This still inspires many of my ideas about technology today.  Wearing Glass is just the beginning!  Anyone else have such memories and inspirations?

WARNING!!! I just ran into a National Parks Police officer at Starbucks and he claims that he has already given out a couple DUI tickets to people wearing Glass while driving.  This is unconfirmed, but I figured I would relay the information lest anyone else get a ticket.  He said they are very confused about the law and have referred the issue to the FBI, but in the meantime officers are allowed to interpret the law the way they see fit.  He said some of the more technically savvy officers are only giving out tickets if they see you interacting with Glass while driving.  Other are just handing out tickets if you are wearing Glass.  Be careful out there!

Glass on a motorcycle

#throughglass I haven't seen anyone share a Glass video riding a motorcycle so I pulled my 2001 Suzuki SV650S out of storage today and rode it around the block.  I'll take it on a longer nicer ride next weekend.

First impression is that Glass works great if you can get it to fit in your helmet.  I have a Nolan full face helmet and it is kind of tight.  In the video you can hear the wind with the visor up, but once I put the visor down it was very quiet.  Glass could hear my voice commands and you could likely talk on the phone or hangout, though I would not recommend that.  Riding takes all of your concentration and I would only use Glass to shoot video and navigate.
