Martial Arts / Nok Beko created by Rob Powell

To this day people find Rob and want him to train them in the martial arts. Rarely can they convince him. Mostly they are military and police officers, sometimes they are MMA fighters. If Rob trains them, when they leave, they are better able to defend themselves, friends, family, city, county, state, or country.

For many years he has been asked about Nok Beko. It is a First American term meaning “not this one”. If you are looking for a victim, or someone you can defeat, Nok Beko, “not this one”.

It is true he was a bodyguard, and it is true that is how he met his former wife. Some say he was a mercenary. No, absolutely not true. He was never a member of any military. In the past he simply trained many law enforcement officers and military elite when he was asked for his help.

He started his martial arts training at age 4, and was teaching by age 16.
Rob says Grappling is great, unless you have 2 or more attacking you, he knows, he’s been there. Punches and kicks are great, until you are taken off your feet.

Nok Beko starts with a system very close to Muey Thai, or Thai Boxing, or Kickboxing. (punches, kicks, knees, elbows, headbutts, and blocks and counters of each)
Next, is a system similar to Bruce Lee’s ”Jeet Kune Do”. (attack of pressure points and joints, causing loss of movement to the area attacked)
Next are the Grappling Arts.(sweeps, throws, joint locks, choking out, and ground and pound)
Next, you put it all together and become an expert fighter.

In Nok Beko, you are a beginner, until you become an expert.
No belts, the belt system was developed by westerners to charge fees for belt tests. No original arts had a belt system, you were a white belt, until you were a black belt. Which means you were a beginner, until you were an expert.

For elite military and police, this takes us to our next and final division.
Weaponry, fighting sticks, staff, bladed weapons and the defense thereof.
Finally, tactics, tracking and outdoor survival.

All this began when he was in college near Reese AFB. Rob taught a fighter pilot and a jet mechanic. They were friends of his and he was just helping them out. This news went to their Commanding Officer. Since that time news has spread and he has taught personnel from all military branches.

For Rob, it’s spiritual. It’s an art that keeps him in great shape. It’s a way to give back by training those that truly need his help. One reporter called him a humanitarian. Rob laughed and said, “I’ll take that”.

For the record, Rob despises violence but acknowledges that some people will attack the innocent and the innocent must defend themselves. He created fitness competitions because no one has to get hurt, and it is a better way to see whom is the best man.

When it’s all over, all a man really has is the story he leaves behind.
Make yours a great one that inspires and helps others improve their lives.

World Record Institutions Internationally recognizes one man as The World Fitness Champion and only World Record Holder.
That man is Coach Rob Powell, and he is the undisputed….
4 Time WFC World Champion
4 Time WFC/Guinness World Record Holder
Over 150 Different Records in Sports, Fitness and Martial Arts
Over 1,000 Wins as an Athlete and Coach

Rob kept shattering his own World Records by two, five and six hours, even after adding a multitude of distances, weights and disciplines to the former World Record. Guinness asked Coach Rob Powell, after his 2001 World Record, to stop increasing the events for the safety of future athletes, and make it a race for time. Guinness then asked Rob to write the rules for this World Record, and they are as follows….
Rules and Events for Guinness World Record® set by Coach Rob Powell

These events were performed by Rob Powell, first on October 27-28, 2001, in 22:11:40.
Rob did it again on October 26-27, 2002, in 19:17:38, SHATTERING his own World Record by nearly three hours.

Rob Powell has even created a new sport, The World Fitness Championships, which has been recognized by Guinness World Records®, as published by ”Men’s Fitness UK”, March 2004, and ”The Dallas Morning News”, October 30, 2004, even though Rob never applied for recognition.

When asked why Rob didn’t apply for Guinness’ recognition, he said, ” Guinness is a fine publication. However, athletics and fitness are not their field of expertise. That’s why the WFC was formed in March of 2000. Guinness allows push-ups/press-ups, weights lifted, certification of equipment, weights, distance and measurements at a much less acceptable level than the WFC allows. We also have the WFC Archives, as an Internationally Recognized Source of World Records. ”

Rob went on to say “I never wanted to be known as a ‘genetic freak of nature’. I just wanted to help people live a richer, fitter, fuller life. Most of these records fall far into the ‘who cares’ category. I did none of these athletic performances for the recognition of records but to prove the limitations that science puts on mankind were wrong. I proved it to myself that it could be done and I could do it. No one can ever take that away from me and as far as I’m concerned no one else ever had to know about these records.”

Even if it is true that Guinness recognized British athletes as “club record” holders and calling it a “Guinness world record” allowing breaks for food and rest and many changes to the events, rules and standards making the competition much easier for them.

The original events, rules and standards and records performed by Rob Powell remain the standard for fitness Internationally and Historically. Rob Powell’s World Records is where it all begins and ends. No one else has ever come close to those performances. No one.

Rob Powell always says, “It’s not how many times you get knocked down, it’s how fast you get up, and get back in the fight”.
Rob is known internationally as the 4 Time WFC World Champion, 4 Time WFC/Guinness World Record Holder, and the
4 Time World Fitness Champion from 2001-2004. No one has legitimately come close to these physically and mentally tough performances setting the standard as the uncontested and irrefutable World’s Toughest Sport. Rob Powell has over 150 Course and World Records involving Fitness, Running, Cycling, Swimming, Rowing, Climbing, Hiking, Triathlons, Weightlifting, Calisthenics, Track and Field, and Martial Arts. He also has over 1,000 Wins as an athlete and coach. 2) 12 Mile Run
3) 12 Mile Hike
4) 1,250 Push Ups
5) 1,250 Leg Lifts

7) 110 Mile Cycle

See Guinness WR Page, and WFC Page for more information.

All the events were witnessed by dozens of people, including nine WFC and Guinness Certified Officials. Every second was videotaped, capturing each and every discipline event by event, mile by mile, and lift by lift. Rob was asked by Guinness to record and write the rules that he used. These rules and events remain the Standard for Fitness, the Standard for the WFC World Records, and Guinness World Record’s 2001-2002 Physical Fitness Challenge.

THE WFC or other credible organizations will not recognize any attempt not following the Rules & Standards set by Rob Powell. No one would refuse to follow these Rules and Standards, unless they had something to hide. See Events and Rules on WFC WR and Guinness WR pages for more information.

These records and accomplishments and the Sport Rob Powell created, The World Fitness Championship, have set in motion today’s much lesser and safer events of multi-sport races and crossfit competitions.

For many years law enforcement officers, military elite and MMA fighters have sought out Coach Powell in gyms, fitness centers and even public schools for martial arts training, and proper conditioning. Why wouldn’t they with these credentials and the proven best training programs in history. Rob has also coached jr. high, high school, college and professional athletes in several sports.

Media outlets internationally have called Rob Powell “The World’s Fittest Man”, (a title once held by Martial Artist Bruce Lee), “The World’s Toughest Man”, “The World’s Best Athlete”, “The World’s Greatest Athlete” and “Pound for Pound The Strongest Athlete and Fighter In History”, as well as “The Best Conditioning Coach and Personal Trainer on the planet”. When asked about this, Rob laughed at it all, and said. “Very flattering, but how did they measure all of that? The only thing all these world records are good for is to inspire jealousy, intimidation and hatred.

Comments and praise like that from the media doesn’t win friends or admirers. It makes the people who are not called those things insecure and intimidated. I didn’t ask to be called those things and I didn’t make those claims, the media does. I don’t think in those terms, nor can I control the international media. The media often makes outrageous and ridiculous claims like those to build someone up only to tear them down at a later point. That is the job of the media, to create controversy and sell it. I pay no attention to their stories and neither should you. If you want to know who I am and where it began, my biography is here.

I set up this website to avoid talking to the media. I have been retired from competition for years and I am still asked for interviews.
I refuse because they only want to talk about what a ‘freak of nature’ I am, or call me a ‘real mutant’ , a ‘real life Walker Texas Ranger’ or backhand complement as some sort of superhero. That’s silly and made up. I am none of these things. It is said there has even been talk and a draft done on a comic book based on real events.

When asked for an interview, I politely decline and say every question they could ask is already answered on this site. The problem is they have already written the article before coming to interview me about some freak of nature. Then, they ask me the strangest and stupidest questions, to twist my words, misquote me, and/or take things out of context to create answers to match their made up story. When I refuse, to give them the answers they want, or words they can not twist, they print the fake story anyway and turn it into a ‘hate piece’.

I am more than willing to do an interview about the health and fitness crisis in America and the solutions to that problem. And that is the only question I have never been asked. The only reason I broke all these records was to prove I could help with these problems.

To quote the media, ‘World Records don’t say you’re the best in the World, they say you’re the best in the History of the World.’ The WFC and other credible world record organizations, record these competitions as the greatest athletic performance in history, irrefutably and without question. They also say that makes this person the best athlete in history. Does it? I don’t know and I couldn’t care less. That’s not what any of this was about.

As for the self defense and fighting, I despise violence. I do know how, and I teach those that ask for and need my help to defend themselves and those under their protection from attackers, only. That’s it and that’s all. I created fitness competitions because no one has to get hurt, and it is a better way to see whom is the best man, other than a fight to the death.

When you have multiple world record success, you have multiple intimidation, jealousy and hatred problems. Those are real human emotions. People never like or celebrate you for these types of records and accomplishments. I have been severely punished for them once they were found out. I’ve been socially ostracized by strangers, friends, family and coworkers. No, it’s not fair, but it’s real.
At times every man, woman and child wants to beat me at something, or beat me with something. It’s just something I’ve had to deal with since 2001.

One good thing about retiring from competition and father time beating the hell out of me, as he does us all, you get older, fatter and uglier. This makes it easier to hide from who you were as a younger athlete. So now that I’m an older guy, it’s acceptable to forgive me for being called ‘The World’s Greatest Athlete’, ‘The World’s Toughest Man’ and all the other accolades I’ve been named. None of it was my doing, the media did it all. Be angry at and take it out on them. Or better yet, if you think your man enough, get off your ass, follow the same rules I followed, and break the world records for yourself. Then you can be harassed by the media, and ostracized by your friends, family and coworkers for making them feel insecure. Let’s see how you like it. None of this was ever about me, it was about teaching the public how to train properly, get America back in shape, and live a richer, fuller life.

My only goal was to help people. If you make extraordinary claims about the best way to train, get in shape, fight obesity and heart disease for a lifetime, they require extraordinary proof. Breaking the WFC, Guinness and all credible world records four times in a row, annually, setting over 150 records in the process, creating a new sport, (they’re now calling it the cross fit games), spin-off sports, (calling those, ocr, spartan races, ect) and creating a revolutionary training system was the best way to do this. So, I did it.

Corporations stole these revolutionary accomplishments from me. They claim it was changed enough to make their theft, ‘legal’.
For now, they have gotten away with it. But the fight is not over yet.

When I trained law enforcement and military elite they found me, and asked me for help. The life they save may be yours, or our loved ones. The training I gave them was to help keep them safe in service to our towns, cities, communities, counties, state and our country. Teaching and coaching our young people help them with fitness, and a good education which helps them make good choices and good decisions later in their lives.

I developed The WFC Workout because being in good physical condition helps people live a longer, healthier, happier and more productive lives. This training program also helps athletes become the best they can possibly be. It doesn’t matter if the athlete is jr. high, jr. college, a professional athlete in a major sport or the gym going public. The WFC Workout works for them all. Over 150 records in sports, fitness and martial arts proves it without question. Having over 1,000 wins as an athlete and a coach doesn’t hurt the proof either. I have dedicated my life to these endeavors and that is all any of this and all the world records have ever been about.

All I want to do now before my time is done is to share this information and teach it to younger athletes, coaches, and the public.
I believe that is all any good man would want to do with the gifts that God gave him.”

Rob Powell retired from competition in 2012, and from training military/law enforcement in 2015. If you can find him and if he’ll take you, he still does personal training, private coaching and teaches martial arts. He also teaches and coaches, if you can find him, and if he believes the school and community is a good fit.

Rob Powell Is he going to coach here?

I wrote this article, without the subjects permission. I did it for myself and I will lock it away as one of the frailties of human nature. I will send it to Coach Rob Powell, along with my apologies for myself and my community.

You have my permission to publish it on your website, or wherever you like, under the condition that I ask you to please remove my name and the name of the town to protect our shame.

A modern day version of Jim Thorpe, Bo Jackson, Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, with the endurance of ten marathon runners and the strength of Hercules was just offered the Head Football, Track and Athletic Director's job at our school. He is considered one of the greatest offensive and defensive minds in the State of Texas.

He is considered the best conditioning coach and athlete on the planet and in History and he has proved it many times. He is on the list of the All-Time USA Track and Field Athletes and Coaches, as well as having already won, one 5AAAAA state title, two regional titles, sixteen district titles, five city titles and two All-Star College Football Bowl Games. The Greenbelt Bowl, where he was selected to coach linebackers, and another as defensive coordinator.

I suspect he will sleep in the field house, hanging upside down from the squat rack like Batman. The local ladies are already saying he is a rich playboy that dates younger women (not College girls, but younger than the local 40 something ladies). They say he doesn't need to work, but he just likes working with kids and likes helping them be the best athletes they can become.

I know the latter is true. The kids are all saying they met him and really like him. They say he's really cool, but strict and definitely a players coach that really knows his stuff. They say they don't see him as Bruce Wayne or Batman. But more as a Wolverine with money. Coach Rob Powell is his name.

When I asked him about this, he laughed and said that he, "is just a beat up 'ol cowboy that likes to work with kids and new coaches, win some games and stamp out some ignorance". (That is a clever reference to teaching classes.)

When I asked him for an interview, he said he stopped doing interviews or allowing print of himself and his name some years ago. No one ever got the point that it was all about helping people, and that's it. Reporters write their own stories with their own agendas long before meeting him and try to manipulate him and his answers to fit their agendas and articles.
So he stopped doing interviews and put up a website and took to social media to get the truth out there. He has over 40,000 followers, and growing, even though he has retired from athletics and is hidden at the ranch.

When I asked him about taking the position, off the record, he said that he was going to stay in town a bit and see how things go. I can tell you how things are going. He has been in town four hours and he has already cleaned up places around the field house that has become a dumping ground for the community.

He said everything is totally off the record, and I have to aide by that.
When I asked him why the first thing he did was clean up the place that has been a mess that I know of for thirty years. He said, "some of the kids may have to go home and look at trash, but they're not going to have to do it here".
Besides, he added, "we need the space for training and drills".
That got me fired up and I wanted to join the teams and play for this man.

The next day he spent separating over thirty years of growth and wood dumping into two giant bonfire piles with the kids volunteering to help.
Then he cleared out the old gym and gym locker rooms and weight room that has been school storage for trash for many years. He said he wanted our school to host basketball and volleyball games in both gyms if he came here.
And he made all that possible in less than 24 hours from outdated storage space and trash covered facilities that had been that way for over thirty years.

At this time of year the senior boys were out of classes half the day and were lending a hand. Coach Powell said he was very impressed and appreciative of their hard work and he hated to be losing kids like that to graduation.

When I asked them about Coach Powell, they asked where was this man when they were freshman. The others simply said they wished he was here for them this year. They believe they would have had their first winning playoff season in one season with him leading them, instead of nine straight losing seasons by five different coaches. He truly is a players coach. Normally strict coaches can't pull that off. But if you are leading them through the work, workouts and leading them to take that hill, instead of telling them to do it, it makes all the difference. Also, I guess if you are the Great Rob Powell, the four time WFC World Champion, four time WFC and Guinness World Record Holder, and holder of over 150 different world records in sports, fitness and martial arts, you could produce miracles too.

If that wasn't enough, the guy has been training elite military and law enforcement officers for many years in martial arts, hand to hand fighting, blades, sticks, tracking and military tactics. No wonder the Allied and US forces are the best. Rob Powell is also on the list of All-Time American Martial Artist. He is even on the list of recognition from Asia's All-Time American Martial Artist. Quite an honor, they have only recognizes three, he, Bruce Lee, and Chuck Norris. But he never said anything about all that.

I guess he was too busy working and cleaning the place up. When I asked him about it. He said he had no idea what I was talking about, like he was hiding it from me and wouldn't talk about any of it. I know now he is humble and afraid of showing off. If you have this kind of talent, energy and abilities, NOT showing off, is a full time job in itself. It's obvious to me now he has been unfairly back stabbed for his accomplishments and his over achieving nature.

I can tell you who was willing to talk about it. Everybody in town. Especially board members administrators and the rest of the staff and the town.
Everyone has a computer and they all Googled Rob Powell WFC. They were all calling him Superman. And it was strange, when they called him Superman, they said it as a derogatory term and statement. I heard it in their voice and even the occasional roll of their eyes when they said it.

I'm shocked, they were all jealous. I suppose I shouldn't be shocked, but here we are. Now that I look at the previous paragraphs, I see I was also being derogatory. I'm glad he was here and I'm glad for what he had unbelievably accomplished in one day of work for our town, community and our school, even before he signed a contract. I am also sure of his leadership for our athletic programs, our kids, and our community. No doubt we will be in the state playoffs every year he is here, and he would build an athletic dynasty for our community.

But we were all jealous of him. No one would admit it. Probably half of them weren't even smart enough to realize that it was their own jealousy that made them not like him. And that is really just so stupid. What's not to like.
But we were all jealous of him, me included. I'm sure he knew it too.
This wasn't his first rodeo. And there was nothing he could do about it.

Now I'm seeing why he didn't sign that contract and wanted to stay in town for a few days. I mean, what was he going to say. "I'm going to wait and see if the towns people are going to treat me with decency or be so jealous of my past that they will run me out of town." That's what he was doing. Taking the temperature of the town to see where they were at on his past. And he never said a word about it. Now it all makes sense. I heard the knock on this guy is that he moves on down the road a lot. Mystery solved on the reason why, besides the fact of training law enforcement and military keeping him on the move.

I guess I understand. I have mixed emotions. On one hand he makes me feel excited. I mean you cant help but feel the energy radiating from this man.
On the other hand. his accomplishments and background makes me feel insignificant, insecure, and less of a man. And to be honest, compared to him, I am a lesser man. But he treats everyone with the utmost respect, a smile, a quick witted joke and an uplifting comment when needed.

Hey, now I am no slouch. I was on several winning sports teams and was an accomplished athlete myself back in the day. But do not compare yourself to this guy, you will fall way short. So that's why he won't talk about it and denies it all. He's just a hard working friendly guy with no peers, nor anyone willing to befriend him due to their insecurities. We befriend our peers. Coach Rob Powell has no peers. Who on this planet has his shared life experience?

Wow, that has got to be a lonely life when no one shares your life experiences. He hides it well, as if it doesn't bothers him at all.
His best friend, as far as I can tell is a 125 pound buck skinned colored wolf.
He follows him around like a puppy taking breaks to play with the kids every now and then. What a gorgeous well trained animal, if he is an animal.
He is too civil to be an animal, but unbelievably awesome none the less.
Even this late in life and after his athletic retirement the only training partner that can keep up with this man is a 125 pound wolf. What does the tell you.

I can't tell if I'm more jealous or more envious of this man wishing I was him. Either way, it's pretty much the same thing and bad for me and worse for him in a political position being a coach in a small town. Ive already heard rumors of school board members saying. "Would you trust a handsome well built and well accomplished man like that around your wife, or your daughters? He can be trusted. He proved he is a perfect Southern Gentleman. But I honestly don't want my wife or girls flirting with him." That's just sad. However, knowing the weak character of humans I'm afraid It will be the consensuses.

Its just too bad, but the nature of humans will be, "this guy can beat us up, he is a threat to me, so I don't want him in this town". I mean, calling him Superman three weeks before he ever got here says it all. It would be no time before the haters would start rumors just to try to create a cause to railroad him out of town. I have seen it happen before to far lessor men than this one.

As I am waiting for school board members to break out of executive secession. I can hear them through the door debating over all his accomplishments. Literally cleaning up the town in one day, as to whether it is a good thing or a bad thing. I mean, the night before after the board meeting they were walking me around the campus and all taking credit for hiring a man that can and has done so much in one day.

Now, it seems people were wondering why a stranger had to come to town and clean up a mess that the current board and administration and previous ones have allowed to build up for over thirty years. This has brought them a lot of well deserved embarrassment. This was not the fault of Coach Powell. He came to town, he saw a mess and cleaned it up to make things better for the kids. End of story.

He won't stay. And honestly, I am both glad, and sorry about it. But I am more ashamed of myself and this community. No one will admit it. I wont admit it either. I will never print this article, even if I had Coach Powell's approval.
I broke too many laws of journalism in this article. Too much truth and honesty. These are the things that make people uncomfortable, forcing them to take an honest look at themselves. Being around Coach Powell does the same thing. Its nothing he does, or says. It's just what he has done.
And I am far too ashamed of myself and my town to ever print this.

After a few days, Coach Rob Powell had business in the area, so I waited at the local convenience store to catch Coach Powell as he was leaving town.
He said he really liked the town and the kids were great, and they were all winners. He also said with the right leadership, they would be district champs, but it was not going to be him. He wouldn't say why, but I know why, and I am ashamed for myself and the town for his leaving.

He said if he ever coached again, it would probably be in the Texas teens corrections department, or as a Six-Man Football AD, or as a small town Middle School Coordinator. Somewhere no one would know, care, or be threatened by his past. Somewhere with no parents to call him Superman. And somewhere he would be working with kids that he felt he could help.
I say for those kids, they would be the luckiest kids in Texas to have him as a coach and mentor. God bless you Coach Powell. You deserve it.

Rob Powell A Men's Fitness Editorial, by Dr. James Hopkins

Rob received this email before the passing of Dr. James Hopkins and before his story was published. As a sign of respect and in gratitude to Dr. Hopkins we decided to post his story.

A Men's Fitness Editorial

I have watched and studied Rob Powell since 2001. That was when he was awarded his first of four WFC World Championships and four WFC/Guinness World Records from 2001-2004. Since then he has continued to coach hundreds of athletes.
He has trained more as a personal trainer to civilians of all ages and even more as a martial arts consultant to MMA fighters, military and law enforcement personnel. There is no doubt Rob is one of the best fighters this planet has ever produced. Therefore, I asked him why he started focusing on fitness and conditioning over fighting. I really liked his answer. He said.
“Proper conditioning is an area where most coaches, athletes and trainers really get it wrong. They don’t have a clue what their doing wrong and what is causing all the injuries to these athletes, or the gym going public.
Somebody has got to help them. Besides, only the twisted and sadistic enjoy fighting and hurting others. I created fitness competitions because no one has to get hurt and you can better test whom is the best man.”

I have watched conditioning coaches, trainers and fitness instructors since the 1970’s, and there is no one else like him. His demeanor is just so different. It is calm and excitable, easy and tough, slow and fast paced, no pressure and high pressure. His teaching method is just what the student needs. Including boot to butt, pulling back on the rains, and praise at the appropriate time. I have never seen anything like it. This doesn’t even scratch the surface of his expertise and extreme knowledge about fitness, and how the body works. He is a true genus in the field of body mechanics and the human mind.

His, "WFC Workout, The Proven World’s Fittest and Best Workout", seems to come from the Roman-Greco era with the circuit training of the 70’s, plus just a touch of the Body Building of the 80’s, without the steroids. Whatever it is, it works. With four WFC World Championships and four WFC/Guinness World Records in a row and over 150 records in sports, fitness and martial arts, and over 1,000 wins as an athlete and coach no one has ever come close to that kind of success in History. Only a fool would second guess or argue with that kind of success and proof.

I always considered myself a fit guy, and an expert in the field of fitness.
Not anymore. Thirty minutes with this guy and I am reevaluating everything
I thought I knew. He put me through the simplest, common sense, high performance workout possible.

This training develops muscles for go, not muscles for show. However, you will have plenty to show with this training.

This training has muscle confusion and consistency, reps and weight, power and speed, endurance and quickness. It has it all. As Rob teaches, speed, strength, endurance and quickness equals pure power. It makes you a better person in day to day life, and the best possible athlete you can be.

In this new millennium there is now a new era and understanding about fitness. Rob Powell has ushered in and turned the page of fitness and conditioning history.

When I first heard of Rob Powell’s accomplishments, I thought it was a joke.
I was with the rest of those that believed the physical limitations put on mankind. Then I saw the proof. Then he broke the World Record again and again and again until there was nothing left for him to prove. He then helped others train for the WFC competitions. He then started helping other athletes become better athletes. Then he made adjustments to his training programs with a no nonsense, easy to stick to workout that fights obesity and heart disease for the rest of the gym going public. The thing about all of this is the guy is a real humanitarian.

He didn’t get paid for all this, he gave it all away for free. When breaking these world records he didn’t just lift himself up, he lifted us all up and improved the human species. He brought the human race to a higher level when he shattered these world records and smashed the old theories and limitations science had put on mankind. And he did it all just to help people learn a better way to get in and stay in shape while fighting heart disease and obesity.

Inadvertently, he not only set records, but in the process he became The World’s Greatest Athlete in History. That’s what world records are. They say you are not only the best in the world, but you are the best in the history of the world. His records are the epitome of world’s greatest athlete and world’s greatest athletic performance. This fact has been recorded and reported internationally, but downplayed in the US.

Unfortunately, if it’s not a major professional sport, it gets little or no attention here in the US. This is not what Rob was after at all. As a matter of fact, bringing up the subject makes Rob uncomfortable. Rob said. “The only thing all these world records are good for is to make people hate you out of their own petty jealousy”. He simply wanted to help people with a better plan in training the human body. As Rob said, “extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.” So he proved his claims only to help mankind. The rest as I previously mentioned was inadvertent.

It is unfortunate that it is the nature of humans that this fact of course makes every man, woman, child, athlete and wannabe jealous and makes them hate the man that accomplishes this feat. They are angry and jealous that it is he is "The World's Greatest Athlete", and not them, and that he was blessed with the discipline, the brains, the body and the athletic ability to accomplish all of this, and they were not. For this he has been criticized, ostracized, and back stabbed for his accomplishments by former friends, family and coworkers.

However, Rob just keeps moving forward as if it doesn’t bother him and he keeps helping athletes, servicemen, the gym going public and kids regardless of how he has been treated. Here we have a man that should be celebrated for his accomplishments, but instead has been unfairly ridiculed and punished for them.

To add insult to injury, there have been over a dozen claims to have broken his records which have all been proven false. Guinness has even awarded records to a couple of them and later had to recall and renounce their recognition of supposed records. That’s why Rob Powell’s records were all video taped with nine certified officials with no less than three on duty at all times, and hundreds of witnesses. These other claims had none of this kind of proof and were all later proven to be false and invalid.

For Rob, this was never about money, although it should have been, he sure earned it. He just wanted to help people fight heart disease and obesity and get in the best shape of their lives.

In 2003, Rob Powell had an agreement with ESPN, I saw his original agreement by email with ESPN to televise his sport, The WFC, The World Fitness Championships. They reached an agreement and ESPN was supposed to send a contract. Instead, they reneged on their agreement and sent a waiver. I saw it. If Rob had signed this waiver ESPN would have owned his sport and cut him out completely other than being the athlete they would build the sport around. Rob refused, ESPN pulled out and years later they joined with Reebok and formed the far safer and easier Crossfit Games. They made these games so much easier than The WFC so the average athlete can do them.

Then they changed the sport enough that for now, they have legally stolen his sport. An act he did not deserve with his ideas, ownership and all his promotion, diligence and efforts. No one denies where the sport originated and was created. It was Rob Powell’s WFC, The World Fitness Championships.

When I asked him this question, he just smiled that sly, little boy smile he has, shook my hand, and said it was good to meet me.
He then thanked me for coming down, and went back to work. He wouldn’t admit to it, but I’ll say it. I know when he watches normal people do their workouts at the gym, or body builders and when he sees other trainers and coaches. For him, it must be like watching chimpanzees working out. I just can’t say it any other way. He is so far ahead of the rest of us.

You have to try this training method to believe it. Rob said he just wants to help athletes be the best they can be and help the public fight obesity and heart disease. Well, mission accomplished Rob, and thanks.

Rob said it first and best, and he’s right. The two keys to living a richer, fuller life is a good education and to be in good shape. That’s why I have been a fan of his from the beginning and I always will be.
