Yes, you can ride horses, bask in the amazing views of the open scenery, and fill your breakfast tummies with some of the best, hand prepared bacon and eggs and muffins, and more. But in truth it is the friendliness of owners Nancy and Phil that make Wilson Ranch such a special place to rest and recuperate, and to enjoy the Spirit of the Oregon West! Within the warmth of the country house my husband and I enjoyed perusing the glossy “coffee table” book that highlighted western women, and Nancy was one of the ladies featured. And how surprised we were to study the wall map of all the different countries that represent their visitors! The map is colored with pins from all over the globe! Already we are looking forward to another visit to this somewhat remote, and gorgeous region of Oregon!

We drove into Fossil at dusk. From our trip there several years earlier, my husband remembered there being a B&B outside of town . Amazing man! He followed his instincts and there was the sign. We drove down the road and knocked on the door. The very nice guests called Nancy. She rushed right over from her home nearby and set us up in a cozy but large room with our own bathroom. It's the kind of B&B that we love. Phil & Nancy cooked the breakfast themselves and ate with all the guests. We had a great time visiting long after the hearty breakfast filled our tummies. I am looking forward to returning and having time for a horse ride!

We had a wonderful weekend get-a-way with the family. We enjoying stepping off the grid and exchanging our cell phones for some cowboy hats. Loved our time at the Wilson Ranches Retreat in Fossil, OR. I read about it in my Sunset magazine and was thrilled to find a working ranch within driving distance. Meet people from all over the country/world over a hearty cowboy breakfast and then spend the day on horseback herding cows with the wonderful Wilson family, 5th generation ranchers...couldn't ask for better hosts. It's the real deal and we hope to go back soon!

Being our first time in Fossil, in the heat of July, we laid our head to rest in the air conditioned, comfortable B&B for two nights. Phil, Nancy & the kind staff made us feel right at home. There were so many special moments for us, here's a handful: the quiet & colorful sunsets, sharing stories with other travelers and people in town, the large country breakfast, the beautiful horse ride, digging for fossils, eating at the diner in town, rafting on the John Day, visiting the dinosaur/fossil museum... yes, we would like to visit again. Thank you Phil & Nancy!

We love Wilson Ranch so much we go back each summer. We love how the place makes you forget about the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the hospitality of the owners, Phil and Nancy makes you feel like family. The bed & breakfast is nestled among surrounding mountains which makes for a quiet and relaxing stay. We turn off our cell phones and the only tv we may watch are old western VHS movies that are provided for guests. Home-cooked breakfasts are prepared daily by Phil and Nancy and are always delicious! We book at least one horseback ride each stay. My favorite ride has been the evening ride. The sunset view from atop the mountains is beautiful. Overall, Wilson Ranch has been a wonderful experience each time we’ve been. We highly recommend it.
