See what the experts have to say about saying you're an expert. Lunchtime hangouts with +Ray Hiltz are always time well-spent.

Do you have trouble calling yourself an expert?
If you're in business, showing expertise is an essential part of building authority, reputation and ultimately trust - all important factors on being found on the web.

This is a conversation that goes around and around in social media. While it's widely accepted that referring to oneself as a "guru" is pretentious, being an expert is a brand necessity.

After all, who will purchase a product or service from someone who isn't clear about their expertise.

Many are reticent to call themselves experts either because they they lack personal confidence, don't own a "niche" or, if they're in social media, believe no one can be an expert due to ever-changing technology.

Join us and add your questions and comments to those of the #RayLunchBunch  as we explore the challenges of defining your expertise and niche online.

Be sure to stick around for the last 5 minutes of the show when we'll be serving our Lunch Bunch Take-Out - tips and links to resources relating to the day's topic.

[H]ow translators neatly excised negative conclusions and ominous predictions.
Netizens cry foul when a new Chinese media outlet selectively translates an Economist cover article.

“[W]hen you have such a small market, you can’t stay local. If you want to grow, you have to go the world,” [Laurent Beaudoin] said. “You don’t have a choice.” Quebec surprisingly avid to acquire global assets.
Couche-Tard is part of a growing contingent of Quebec companies that have moved beyond cross-border shopping to hunt acquisitions all over the world.

What  an excellent idea!
The art bus is one of Toronto's best accidental-secrets. Outside a small circle of artists, gallery admins and students, few others beyond Toronto's hardcore devotees to art (and free snacks/low qual wine) know about the rides, yet they're one of Toronto's best free activities. Plus, these bus blasts past the...

Introduction

I am a published writer, an experienced translator, and a desktop publisher with well over 15 years’ specialized experience in the language industry (formerly known as the translation field). I came to the language industry by a circuitous route via stints in public relations, technical writing, real estate and property management, law (entertainment, corporate and international), and film production (feature and documentary). I have also worked as a diner waitress, doughnut maker, house painter and once built a split rail fence. An egghead with a side of ham, teaching and public speaking help me get my ya-yas out.
