About 150 volunteers braved heavy rain and winds Dec. 2 to serve as "elves" during the Blackhawk Country Club community's 27th annual Food Drive to benefit the Food Bank of Contra Costa/Solano. Cash contributions totaled $27,260, and nearly 9,600 pounds of food were collected to help feed the hungry.

101.5 the Valley’s Music Place will present a screening of "The First Waltz", a rockumentary of the creation of Hard Working Americans, a new Americana supergroup featuring singer Todd Snider, bassist Dave Schools from Widespread Panic, Neal Casal of Chris Robinson Brotherhood on guitar and vocals, Chad Staehly of Great American Taxi on keyboards and Duane Trucks, younger brother to Derek on drums. Admission: cash donation or non-perishable food item to benefit Feeding America Southwest Virginia.

The Reporter's Giving Tree effort which supports the Vacaville Storehouse, Vaca FISH, St. Mary’s Food Locker and the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano is at about 60% of its goal. It is not too late to help. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 18.
