47 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER INTENSIVE 2014 BEGINS

#rmsp  is extraordinarily fortunate to have many educational partners that allow us to continually increase the quality of experience we can provide to our #photography  students. One of these partners is +B and H based in #newyork . B&H is the largest retailer of camera equipment on our planet, yet are as friendly and as personable as any mom & pop shop out there.

In this candid photo, 2013 graduate Lisa Seidman catches B&H marketing guy, +Gabriel Biderman helping a couple other students practice with off-camera lighting using a +Profoto battery pack (while he practices his parkour / ninja / being chased skills). This level of involvement and hands-on participation from B&H always makes our students happy and raises the level on the fun-o-meter.

48 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER INTENSIVE 2014 BEGINS

We have a beautiful shot of "The #rmsp  campus" to share today taken by Advanced Intensive 2012 graduate Sherry Malotte. This is yet another stunning view of downtown #Missoula   #Montana , where a lot of our #careertraining  students can be seen with camera gear in hand on a daily basis.

This image was taken from the south side of the Higgins street bridge, and shows the view looking north. The river in the scene is the Clark Fork River. The white peaks on the other side of the river is the tent at #caraspark , a popular public place where lots of events are held. The county courthouse is the building with the white dome slightly left of center. The #WilmaTheatre  is the tall building on the right, and on the far right, a ways in the background is the building where the RMSP offices and classrooms are located. During their free time, many of our students (especially those who bring their dogs!) enjoy hiking on the hill in the background of the photo. The trailhead is only a few minutes from downtown.

All in all, Missoula is a great place to attend #photographyschool !

50 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER INTENSIVE 2014 BEGINS

If you want to get a real good idea of how great some of your days will be while in #Missoula   #Montana  for our Summer Intensive course, this photo gives you a pretty darn good start! Wide open skies, fields of flowers, and endless #photography  inspiration are the norm here during the summer.

Thank you 2013 SI graduate +Rachel Murray for this great shot that makes us want to be in that field!

55 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER INTENSIVE 2014 BEGINS

In recent years the classrooms at  #rmsp  have undergone a pretty good size remodeling. In the classroom seen below, (we'll call it the #Glacier  room), we lifted the ceiling , replaced the carpet with crystal clear lake water, and painted the walls with natural pastel colors. We also pushed the walls far apart so there is plenty of elbow room.

While some of our classrooms are in our building in #Missoula   #Montana , one of the best classrooms we offer is #glaciernationalpark . Of all the beautiful places on this earth to learn #photography , this has to be one of the best. And it's not just the scenery, but the way it smells, feels, sounds and makes you feel. Unbeatable!

#Lightroom5  is a great tool for any photographer wanting to manage, sort, keyword, and even edit their images in one sensible location. As #rmsp  instructor +Kathy Eyster points our in today's article, Lightroom is also great for preparing images for poster printing.

Check out her article to learn how easy it can be to create large customized prints from your digital images!

In my previous posts, I’ve outlined how to prepare a single photo for printing by your favorite photo lab (called “outsource printing” by some). In this... READ MORE >

49 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER INTENSIVE 2014 BEGINS

There is a funny, yet rather true bumper sticker that adorns car bumpers in and around #Missoula   #Montana .

It reads: "Missoula: Just 30 minutes from Montana."

While it might not make a ton of sense to anyone coming to this area from a bigger, more bustling location, it rings true to those of us in western Montana. Missoula exists in the hub of five valleys, and as a broad brush statement, tends to march to the beat of a different drummer than the rest of the state.

The photo below makes me think of the above-mentioned bumper sticker. Taken by 2013 graduate Andrea Harrell, a #summerintensive   student explores Ninepipes Wildlife Refuge with her camera just before sunset. And, you guessed it, this location - the more stereotypical Montana - is located just 30 minutes from Missoula. This location is a popular spot to view wildlife, photograph morning and evening light, and to stand in awe of  the Mission Mountains.

Join us for the last free evening lecture of our 2013/14 series. +Doug Ness will be presenting a lecture titled Photography as Contemporary Art.

This lecture is all about the concepts and ideas behind the work. Where does photography fit in? What kind of photography do museums and galleries want to show? How important is the imagery itself? These are some of the questions he will address in this lecture.

Hope to see you there!

54 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER INTENSIVE 2014 BEGINS

This is a great candid shot by #rmsp  Education Coordinator +Marcy James of a group of students laughing with visiting instructor Cliff Hausner. Moments like these are what #SummerIntensive  are all about and happen several times a day. The students in this photo came to #Missoula   #Montana  from North Carolina, Brazil, and Montana. This moment was only a week into their SI experience.

Connecting with other budding photographers from every corner of the globe is a perk of our program and is extremely valuable to your overall #photographyeducation
