My team and I at CSU Channel Islands are happy to announce that we are sharing the curriculum for our online faculty development offering, Humanizing Online Learning, under a CC-BY-NC license.

We are developing the adoption toolkit now, which will be made available to lead faculty from adopting institutions who complete the class with me. If you'd like to learn more about the class, please read the blog post below. If you have support from your institution for adopting the curriculum (or you'd like to learn more), please message me directly at michelle.pacansky-brock@csuci.edu. Thanks!

Fabulous post from CI faculty, Rachael Jordan! Demonstrates how technology can personalize learning and how professors can leverage their own experiences as college students to integrate empathy into the design of their classes. +Phil Hill

This past semester, CSU Channel Islands completed a series of accessibility tests on VoiceThread, which included a screenreader test on VoiceThread Universal and the development of a dual-phased captioning process (through an integration with VoiceThread and Automatic Sync Technologies). As a result, CI has prepared a VoiceThread accommodations plan for students with disabilities. The plan is available online at the link below and has been shared with a CC-BY license.

Outstanding post! So true. +Bernard Bull thank you.
Another great post from +Bernard Bull ... one way to sum up these observations is that "our best expertise is our COLLECTIVE expertise," which is why I am so disappointed at the total lack of any ongoing, wide-ranging conversation among online instructors at my school. Instead of sharing ideas and experiences, everybody is hunkered down in the LMS, closed off from each other, and with no sharing outside the LMS. We've got multiple online course programs, fully online degrees offered by multiple colleges, a campus-wide Center for Teaching Excellence, millions of dollars invested this year alone in a MOOC platform... but an open, ongoing conversation about different kinds of online learning? A conversation that is itself online, practicing what we preach? Nope. Nada. Zilch. Some face to face presentations every once in a while. But using face to face to share ideas about online is not going to move us forward, as the past 15 years at my school have shown.
For proof positive that such conversations ARE possible, just look at what +Michelle Pacansky-Brock is doing...  she teaches about online using online, all human all the time. :-)
