I recently took part in an anonymous collaboration for an exhibition called An Assemblance of Judicious Heretics being held at Rochester Library, Kent, UK for the duration of September.
I was given this poem to illustrate and the image is my final piece of art that I submitted. I do hope you enjoy it.
My Golden Child by Lin Tidy
I have a golden child who is now a man with golden children of his own. When he was a mere golden grain inside me, the grey people came, to tell me they had an answer to my problem. Because he would never have a place they said, would be an outcast and take me with him on his exile, I should have no hope for him.
My golden child is now a golden man with magic in his hands, who paints bright pictures that fill a room with life. And people buy his magic pictures to gaze at and ponder how someone could paint such beauty.
My golden child reads to his golden children, bringing characters to life so they may leap around the room. He gently plaits his daughter's hair and speaks to his son of the grain in the wood and the pull of the moon on the tides.
The grey people have gone now, and that is as it should be.
