Hi, I'm new here, and I've got a problem I can't figure out.  Hoping you'll be able to help me.  It's about my 2005 Ford Focus, which just turned over 100,000 miles on the odometer.

It's got a tennis ball in the trunk (that's literally what it sounds like), that starts sounding like it's bouncing around when I hit freeway speeds.

I took it in to a mechanic who went over the whole car with a fine-toothed comb for hours and could not find anything that was wrong. Believe me, if you can think of anything he should have checked, he checked it. He ran off a laundry list of things that he checked, from the suspension on down (I know I should know more about a) cars in general, and b) what he checked, but I don't).

All I really wanted was for him to find something, so it could be fixed. Not to tell me everything's okay, because obviously something isn't. He even told me that he'd be perfectly comfortable driving this car cross-country. But I'm not. And this is a very bad thing for me.

I should probably be thinking about replacing it, anyway, but I was really hoping to get another couple of years out of it, and except for the tennis ball it's in terrific shape. What else can I do?
