Walking

Walking is probably the best exercise there is. If you are physically capable, from the time you get out of bed in the morning until the time you go to bed at night you are on our feet. Walking does not involve jumping around like aerobics so almost anyone can start a walking program.

How can I increase my activity?

You have so many opportunities throughout the day to walk. You can get off the bus a few stops before yours and walk the rest of the way home. You can walk up the stairs instead of taking the escalator. You should be walking at least 10,000 steps per day to keep fit. You can buy an inexpensive pedometer to measure your steps throughout the day.

Another suggestion is to join a walking club if you don't like walking alone. There are some clubs that meet up and walk in the malls for a set period of time.

The most important thing is to keep active during this period of your life.

There are also several walking program that you can purchase on CD or DVD that you can do at home. You really must set aside some time for yourself to increase your physical activity. You should always consult with your doctor before you start any exercise program. It is imperative that you keep active during this phase of your life. This is the time that you tend to gain weight even though you might not have increased your caloric intake. If you are not physically active, you might want to consider starting a walking program.
