I don't know whether to be angry or start impersonatnig men.
The plan made me feel dishonest and creepy, so it took me a long time to send my novel out under a man’s name. But each time I read a study about unconscious bias, I got a little closer to trying it.

Just one of many insightful posts in my favorite Bitch Flicks theme week ever. I totally didn't notice that #The100 is cycling through different types of dystopias, but it makes sense.
Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor) and Anya (Dichen Lachman) in one of The 100's many dystopias. This guest post by Deborah Pless appears as part of our theme week on Dystopias. The first scene of The 100 makes it pretty freaking clear that this is a show about dystopia. We are introduced to a pretty ...

"Psychology researchers from the University of New South Wales and Miami University did a study where they compared men’s performance playing Halo 3 online to the amount of misogynist harassment they were dishing out. The result? A direct and strong correlation between how badly men were doing in the game and how nasty they were to women."
In short, these guys are bullies -- they want to feel bigger and better than someone else. Here's how it works

"It’s as if he doesn’t really know what he’s laughing at or care what race and sexuality and gender are." Seth MacFarlane’s comedy summed up in one sentence.

"For instance, most call-outs I have witnessed immediately render anyone who has committed a perceived wrong as an outsider to the community. One action becomes a reason to pass judgment on someone’s entire being... Call-out culture can end up mirroring what the prison industrial complex teaches us about crime and punishment: to banish and dispose of individuals rather than to engage with them as people with complicated stories and histories."
Are we educating each other or just scoring points from our swivel chairs?

It is rare for a fanfic to so perfectly capture the experience of the original work.
You may be aware that CD Projekt’s The Witcher games are based on a series of fantasy novels by the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. What you ma...

I'm still embarrassed by how much I love this show, but, man, I love this show.

You're welcome, Hollywood.
Written by Katherine Murray. A few weeks ago on Pop Culture Happy Hour, Audie Cornish succinctly explained what's so great about Spy: that it's a movie custom built to use Melissa McCarthy's talents, by a director she's worked with for years. “The director showed us what he loves about her,” she ...

Never watched The Newsroom, but uncovered this article while digging for stuff about HBO. It's a very well-articulated explanation of what's wrong with arguments about rape presented in the episode.

Me, talking about #gameofthrones . And Oz and other shows on HBO.
Written by Katherine Murray. Let me start by saying that the title of this post is a little disingenuous – I'd never tell you how upset to be about the rape plot lines on HBO. You feel how you feel, and you get to make your own decisions about what you do and don't watch.
