"It’s as if he doesn’t really know what he’s laughing at or care what race and sexuality and gender are." Seth MacFarlane’s comedy summed up in one sentence.
Seth MacFarlane reaches new lows with ‘Ted 2.’

"Do you know what happens to someone when their brains turn off? They die."
Earlier this week, I wrote a piece called “Ranking Every Jurassic World Character From Dumbest to Least Dumb.” The response to the article was...

"For instance, most call-outs I have witnessed immediately render anyone who has committed a perceived wrong as an outsider to the community. One action becomes a reason to pass judgment on someone’s entire being... Call-out culture can end up mirroring what the prison industrial complex teaches us about crime and punishment: to banish and dispose of individuals rather than to engage with them as people with complicated stories and histories."
Are we educating each other or just scoring points from our swivel chairs?

I've never heard of this show, but it sounds terrible. What really made me ♥ this review is that they also worked in some criticism of Undercover Boss, which can never be criticized enough.
We don't want to hide the ball on this one, so we'll just tell you: we really, really, really didn't like the new show in which families are psychologically tortured over piles of money.

I have a soft spot in my heart for mashups, but they're hard to do well. #14 on this list, "We Are Coming Undone," is one of the best I've heard.
Mashups are stupid. Also: mashups are amazing.

Me, talking about #Blue , a surprisingly good TV show that lives on the internet. One of the best depictions of trauma that I've ever, ever seen.
Written by Katherine Murray. Blue is either an amazing bait-and-switch or (more likely) a series that changed its mind about what it was partway through. Either way, what began as an inferior, online version of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, has grown into a powerful, subtle, and well-acted drama ...

Never watched The Newsroom, but uncovered this article while digging for stuff about HBO. It's a very well-articulated explanation of what's wrong with arguments about rape presented in the episode.

Me, talking about #gameofthrones . And Oz and other shows on HBO.
Written by Katherine Murray. Let me start by saying that the title of this post is a little disingenuous – I'd never tell you how upset to be about the rape plot lines on HBO. You feel how you feel, and you get to make your own decisions about what you do and don't watch.

I've never had strong feelings about Princess Leia, but, yeah, when you look at it this way, she was all right.
On May the Fourth, a celebration of the political dedication of Princess Leia, who smashed old stereotypes of damsels in distress.

I've totally done some of these.
Even reputable websites have been caught screwing up these idioms, which spell check often doesn't find.

"Plenty of the thinkpieces around the sequence came with dubious question marks, until Jolie spelled it all out herself. That initial hesitance was fascinating—it makes sense that no one wanted to be accused of reading too much into a Disney movie. But just as the scene mirrored what was going on in the news, the response to it mirrored what was going on in the culture, as the public, the police, and the American legal system grappled with who and what they wanted to believe around high-profile situations like the Steubenville and Torrington rape cases."

Props to Tasha Robinson for finding something genuinely interesting about Maleficent.
