I've been to the one on Avery Ranch. This location, while well-laid out and scenic, is not even close to comparing to the Avery Ranch restaurant location. I'll even go so far as to say that if I didn't know better, I wouldn't think they were in the same chain of restaurants. I went to lunch with some friends yesterday. The restaurant seemed really empty, but it seems that they were woefully understaffed. It took us at least one half hour to get our food. I just asked for a box to carry it out. I didn't even have time to eat it. On top of that, the order was wrong. I asked for shrimp and chicken fajitas and got chicken and beef. Both were extremely dry. I think the manager understood that there were some quality issues and that my food was all wrong. She brought me out the missing shrimp and the cook had added the original chicken, as well. Then, the manager comp'd my whole meal. That's the main reason my rating is three stars. If not for their efforts, I would have given two.

Arrived at restaurant and was told we had to wait for the rest of our party, while our table was already set for us. We ordered drinks at the bar just as the hostess told us our table was ready. Then we had to wait at the bar for the bill there. Then when we were seated at the table the waiter asked us if we needed drinks. o _ o When he brought the chips for the appetizers they were crumbs. Called him back and he laughed as he looked at the basket of broken chips. Finally were able to order our main entrees. When asked for recommendation he mentioned several items on menu. More on that later. Our food arrived and as mentioned was good. At the end of the meal when he brought the ticket he told me that he had never eaten the entree that he recommended to me but that other patrons had said it was good. The food was good and the service was attentive but slightly sarcastic, bordering on rude. I don't think I will eat there again.... overpriced in a ritzy part of town.

Z'Tejas is your "upscale" Tex-Mex food. Don't get me wrong, it's delicious but if you are planning just to get an enchilada plate or something like that, be prepared to spend twice or three times what you would spend at a just as tastey Tex-Mex place. I think you pay more for the ambiance then the food. The times i have gone to Z'Tejas, I usually get one of their daily specials which never disappoint the palate or the wallet.

Firstly, not a whole lot of parking for both Z'Tejas and Eddie V's. Staff was very welcoming and all about getting me a good drink to start off the night. The place is immaculate looking and looks very expensive. We sat outside on what look like some cheap folding tables, which was quite an anomaly. During January at around 5:30pm it's dark outside so the awesome view was somewhat okay. Kind of disappointed that they didn't offer up some complementary chips. I got the table side guacamole, and it was meh. I'd rather sit down with some fresh made guacamole from H.E.B. to be honest. It was also poorly made. I had the santa fe chicken enchiladas. Nothing to really brag about especially for the price. Again, would love some complementary chips for that side of rice and beans. Around this time my Margarita Flight showed up and it was probably the highlight of the meal. Had some of the cornbread and it was the bomb, you can't go wrong with cornbread. For desert I had the strawberry cheese cake. To be honest I'm not really sure it was strawberry cheese cake. I think it was just cheese cake. Overall, I was pretty disappointed with this place. You could spend a lot less money somewhere else and received a lot better food.

I feel that it is important to give credit where credit is due. A fairly large group of my friends attended a function at Z'tejas in the Arboretum a few months ago and so far, none of us have a single negative thing to say about the experience. The food was amazing and hot, drinks were prepared in a very timely fashion, and the customer service was beyond great. I wanted to recognize Mike Zamarripa for his organization and readiness for this fun crowd. It was apparent he is used to working with large groups and his attention to detail and customer satisfaction is above and beyond the norm. I promise to bring my friends and family to this location for not only the food and atmosphere but also to experience the sense of satisfaction you get from a wonderful night out. Thank you Mike!!! We will be back, Kellie Sexton, RN

Not impressed. We sat outside and that was nice, very pretty, they did a good job building the place, however we would have preferred a choice of either chips and salsa at the table or the tasteless cornbread they brought instead. Some people like cornbread, some people don't. We love the complimentary chips and salsa at mexican restaurants and were disappointed when they didn't bring any. Also it they brought it out "maybe" 5 minutes before our food arrived instead of momentarily after we sat down. I asked our waiter how the rice was because I'm a huge fan of really good mexican rice. He claimed it was very good and that he liked it so I went ahead and ordered my dish. The rice was so utterly bland! There was little to no taste there in that dish. If you like good rice, don't go here! Also it was a little undercooked -when you eat rice it shouldn't be crunchy should it? As for the waiter he was just like the rice! Very bland. As a waiter he wasn't "bad," he just wasn't all that great. We like our waiter/ess to have a personality you know? Now, the whole reason I'm actually giving this place 3 stars (thought about two...), is the Smoked Chicken Chile Relleno. WOW, I must say that item was fantastic! So tasty, I would "almost" go back for this. Sweet from the apricots, but a little bit spicy from the pepper. Beautiful. However it comes with sides of beans and rice, try your hardest to get something other than the terrible rice.
