I decided to play a game of Friday tonight. The Pirates beat me hard. Bonus question: What are my nifty note cards? I recently came across a stack of these in a game I haven't opened in years. :)

They look like computer punch cards.

This weekend was the first year for a new local game convention - Nexus Game Fair. I met up with some friends from my college game group and gamed like we were in college again. I got to play in a session of Top Secret run by the original designer, Merle Rasmussen. I also played FATE Core using the Camelot Trigger setting. Fret not readers, I did play board games. :) In total:
I ran two demos of Takenoko with my big set.
I played:
A Few Acres of Snow
Glory to Rome
Bohnanza
Amerigo
Speculation
Mascarade
Formula D
Roll Through the Ages
Alhambra
Seasons
League of Six

League of Six and Castles of Burgundy are both excellent games.

Anyone else recognize this? I think I have a design idea to modernize game play while still keeping the crunchy bits we loved.

I just played a second game. Even with the 13-year old whining like a preschooler the game was a closer result. I won, but only 37 to 35 as the French again.

Cross-posting in case of interest. Over at Goblin Market I have some 40k Epic stuff for sale.

I am selling off some old GW stuff. This is the first lot. I have the 3rd Edition(?) of Epic 40k. This is the box set with minis and rules. There's also an extra book for the game I'm throwing in. I also have a box, full of random, mostly Epic minis. There are also a few old Lizardmen. The box of randomness has mostly Space Marines and Eldar, but I did spy a Dwarf figure. Make me a reasonable offer - that includes shipping - and one or both can belong to you.

Playing Netrunner with girlfriend's son. I didn't bring my cards so I had to build a deck from his. It's odd only having the Core and Creation and Control to work with after normally having all of the cards.

When I was TO for my local league, I ran a themed tournament that only allowed core set cards. Players found it very interesting to go back to that small set of cards again, and I got a lot of positive feedback from it.
Our new TO rewards players for getting achievements (e.g. getting 5+ bad publicity in one game). This forces players to be more creative, instead of just playing to win with the latest hotness.
Constraints breed creativity and fun!

Went to LCG League night expecting to get in some Game of Thrones or Netrunner. Instead I ended playing a game of Doomtown Reloaded one of the guys had printed out and brought. It was a lot of fun. I was already planning to get a Base Set when it released, because a number of friends would be playing. Now I want a set no matter what.

Yeah, I've been wanting to play Doomtown for a long time, but I've been unwilling to shell out the cash that the cards sell for on eBay. I'm glad I waited now that they're reprinting it.

Just starting a game of League of Six. I picked up a copy from a dealer at Nexus Game Fair this weekend. It was new in shrink for only $18.

I finally got this Kickstarter game on the table. It's an interesting game. The play is pretty free-flowing, but it has more structure in play than it feels it will when reading the rules.

I hit a shop in Madison, WI today and scored a copy of, "A Few Acres of Snow" for 50% off and the Pillbug expansion for my Hive set. They also had Libertalia and Rise of Augustus there for 50% off as well, but I couldn't afford more than one of the three.

All of that said, is there anyone interested in the pocket-size pillbug pieces? You'll get a xerox of the rules and if you want, I'll throw in the X-Box code as I am a Sony man and don't need it.
