Thank you, Kathleen Miles, for your HuffPost Women blog. The only women who looked real were Ellen DeGeneres and Whoopi Goldberg. The others, Botoxed and razor thin, looked plastic. A sad advertisement for today’s women, who come in all shapes and sizes.

Interesting that in this day of so many high-achieving women, the princess fantasy persists. Just don't let it stop other kinds of fantasies that can actually come true, like building a great career and creating a stable, fulfilling partnership with a supportive guy!

In "The Egalitarian-Marriage Conundrum" (New York Times Magazine, Feb. 9, 2014) Lori Gottlieb suggests that teamwork in relationships leads to sexual ennui. I believe that her analysis fails to take into consideration the new dynamics influencing couples whose roles are gender neutral.

In traditional marriages, sex was driven by male desire. Now that gender roles in marriage are more fluid, the traditional male role of initiating sexual frequency and variety is muted. Today’s strong women, who take charge in many areas, are often conflicted about their sexual appetites and hold on to romantic notions of being ravished and “taken.” Being passive sexually, an outdated social script, is inconsistent with women’s new roles.

It is up to women to be as adventurous sexually as they are in other areas and take equal responsibility for creating sexual opportunities in their marriages. Sex has an important role in marriage and should not be traded for compatibility.

Wendy Davis is being persecuted for being a smart, ambitious woman. What is her crime?  Is it that she said she was separated when she didn't file for divorce until a year later? Or is it that she is no longer living in a trailer and is fighting for women's issues? The smear campaign is farfetched and outrageous. The old guard is punishing her because she is an empowered woman who has managed to have children and also make a name for herself as a forceful politician.
The world has changed. Women like Wendy Davis are in the forefront of these social changes. Some day women will not be apologizing for having children and being ambitious. I hope it is soon.
