Is moving your data from a public cloud a form of ransomware? Many organisations store content in cloud-based archives as it gives them the ability to move huge amounts of content into a public cloud for “free” or relatively low-cost. However now businesses are finding out the true cost of extracting or migrating their data climbing to shockingly ridiculous levels. So, is that a form of ransomware? http://hubs.ly/H07SxrB0 via @itproportal

1 out of every 131 emails sent contain a potential threat in the form of a malicious attachment or link. Just by clicking an attachment or link in an email, hackers can gain access to your computer, view you through your web cam, obtain your passwords through keystroke logger software and get access to your bank accounts. For multi million dollar businesses the stakes are much higher. For every defensive move a company makes to protect themselves, the hackers are simply finding for another entrance into the system.

With global cyber security spending expected to exceed $1 trillion over the next four years with an expected growth to 4 billion by 2020. Does your business have this at the top of its IT Strategy? < Source of stats - http://hubs.ly/H07NMj30 >

UK wasting £37bn a year on failed Agile IT projects and Agile development is an 'IT fad' that risks iterative failure says the findings of our recent commissioned survey of 300 CIOs in the UK and the US. We examined their experiences of Agile and measured how successfully the principles of Agile are being applied and executed. Chris Porter, CTO and co-founder of 6point6 and one of the authors of the report said: “Agile IT in the UK is facing a hidden crisis - 12% of Agile projects are failing completely. CIOs tell us they expect to undertake six agile projects next year, one in twelve of which will fail completely. Given there are about 6,000 CIOs in the UK and that the average Agile IT projects costs approximately £8 million, that represents a huge amount of waste. The truth is that despite the hype, Agile development doesn’t always work in practice.”

EU could legislate to make it easier to move data between cloud providers. Cloud computing providers could be forced to make it easier for businesses and consumers to move all their data to rival providers under new EU laws being considered.

6point6 sympathise with all organisations impacted by the global outbreak of WannaCry ransomware, especially the NHS.

This is a difficult time for many, and 6point6 are already volunteering their own Cyber specialists to help those in need at this difficult time.

We call upon all cyber specialists to do the same. The magnitude of this attack is unprecedented, this is the largest cyber attack we have ever seen.

Organisations less equipped to respond than others will be stretched to limit of their capacity and ability. Let's not sit back and assume other people can deal with this. Get involved if you can. Cyber skills are in short supply and we need to pool our collective resources and share what help we can.

Based on our own analysis of WannaCry, we have produced practical step-by-step technical guidance that organisations can take to help contain this Ransomware threat.

We continue to monitor the situation closely, and will provide updates if we learn of anything new.

Eddie Lamb, Director of Cyber Security of UK IT consultancy 6point6 said: “We sympathise with the hospitals involved in the #nhscyberattack. It’s impacting their ability to deliver essential health services. We’d be prepared to volunteer one of our cyber specialists to the NHS through this difficult time, and we'd encourage other UK cyber providers to do the same. We all have a duty to restore the working health of our country, and get the NHS able to function fully again.
