Everybody needs a laser pointer just so they can impulsively try out claims from Wikipedia for themselves. For instance: "A similar pattern may be seen by shining a laser pointer at a compact disc." From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-ray_crystallography#Recording_the_reflections

Did you know TextEdit (on a Mac) turns quotes into smart quotes by default? It took me longer than I'd like to admit to get from "unexpected EOF" to "huh, that quote mark looks kind of funny"; I'm really lucky that the shell script I was editing was only 40 lines.

I don't quite understand why the recommended image sizes are so big. 1200x1200 for a website thumbnail? Like, okay, sure, multimedia is the future. But do we just not care about efficiency (in bits or in screen space) anymore?
