The comfortable yet refined dining room and bar, accented with stained ash wood and limestone, feature an open kitchen and a chef's counter where the customers can sit and watch their food being made. Chef James Rigato's menu changes often and has a variety of options including a local grass-fed beef burger, house-made desserts, fresh seafood and in-house smoked meats. The Root Bar has 8 Microbrews on draft and a full selection of wines, bottled beer, alcohol and house cocktails incorporating a number of Michigan breweries, distilleries and winemakers. The Root prides itself on offering casual dining with a higher standard of food, beverage and service.

MEDIOCRE food, expensive prices. We decided to try this place because of all the great reviews. We don't mind spending a good amount on a meal if it's going to be delicious, however, this food was mediocre at best. We got the fresh fish entree (herb crusted salmon) and the pork dinner followed by the chocolate burrito for dessert. Both entrees and the dessert were lacking in flavor. Nothing special at all. Bill was $64 and we just had water to drink. Service was also mediocre... long wait to take our order, no fresh pepper offered, let our waters get nearly empty, no offer for bread refill, etc... Not impressed at all. We won't be going back.

Worst meal I've had in quite a while. What a bunch of hype. Pork Belly is super salty and kind of a weird mix. My wife and I left half our meal, no box for me thanks. There is a reason most meals aren't made with the overhyped descriptions of these. Save your money. Both my wife and I have uneasy stomachs afterwords. I feel better after 18 hours. Can't to drive by this place while in the area.

The best dining experience I've had in Michigan, period. Chef James Rigato is incredible, and his talent truly shines with creative and amazing dishes. The Pork Belly is to DIE for! The wait staff was very kind, attentive and knowledgeable. A+ experience and food!

Nice surprise. Even though they were low on supplies because they only use fresh ingredients and we arrived there later in the day, I ordered something completely different from something I usually would eat and loved it. Now I'll have to get in a little earlier to try their more popular dishes, but it would be worth it!

The quality of the food has been much better lately. Loving their appetizers, especially the scallops and pork belly. Their cheese platter was outstanding. I could make a meal out of that by itself. However, the rest of the menu is good, but nothing really stands out as amazing. That, and it sorely needs an update with some new items added. Also, I'm loving all the local/Michigan items: food and beer. All that being said, the atmosphere, staff, appetizers all make for a very nice experience and I absolutely suggest going there

The pork belly was to die for and my shrimp and grits had amazing flavor. The servers are very knowledgeable and will help you pair a Michigan beer with your meal.

Hands down one of the best locally sourced restaurants in Michigan. Chef James is phenomenal and it shows in the food. There is something for every one here, whether its $2 taco Tuesday... The $10 awesome burger or a $30 steak. It will be one of the best dining experiences you will have. The staff has never been anything less than attentive and we frequent here very often
