The Burger was good. My friends tried the tasting menu options and loved their dishes. The chef has many award from Hour Detroit and other publications. House fries were great and burger option was reasonably priced. I had a bartender's special for a drink and was not disappointed. Picked this place to meet with some friends in the middle and glad to find a nice restaurant. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very clean setup too.

We had a very good dinner at The Root this week. The scallop appetizer was excellent. A mix of scallops a white pea puree and garlic. My wife enjoyed the vegan tart dish. My Amish chicken dish was different, a Greek/middle eastern take. We finished off the night with the brownie sundae which was about you'd expect. The service was thoughtful and on point. Overall, definitely worth going again some day.

This was the greatest experience we could have ever had for a first date. Our waiter was superb and very attentive. Being that my date is vegan, I opted to try the vegan tasting menu as well. When it came to the gazpacho, we were both unsatisfied but didn't want to cause a stir (it wasn't bad, just not something that suit our palate). He noticed that we had barely touched it and brought out the soup du jour, left it on the table, and said "how did that get there?" and walked away! Greatest guy too as he ended up comping a drink he had made for me because of the soup. Thank you, friend. Thank you, Root. We had a great time and have already planned on a second date! We will for sure be back in the future.

The rib eye was delicious and not a bad price. The tandoori chicken, on the other hand, seemed expensive for what you got. It certainly would not be enough to fill me up by itself. They have a great selection of Michigan beers at reasonable prices.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I love their vegetarian and vegan menu. Depending on which fresh ingredients are available, there's always something different! They support and promote local resources, and offer organic options whenever possible. The decor is unique, the atmosphere is soothing, and there's an outside seating area when weather allows. Although their prices are a bit higher here, you definitely get what you're paying for: fresh, quality, locally sourced, often organic, exquisitely prepared cuisine, in a warm, inviting atmosphere, with great service and selection!

Very modern atmosphere in here, and although the food is a little pricey and selection is limited, the food is DELICIOUS. You won't be disappointed if you come here for breakfast! Their omelettes are to die for.

Our party of four dined here on a Saturday night. The food and service was phenomenal. Our waiter was very attentive and explained their menu options and ingredients they use at the Root. We were very impressed they always use fresh ingredients, and meals are created from scratch. Great vegan options too. From our appetizers to our dessert the meal was amazing. We appreciated that their manager stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying our meal and if we needed anything. Highly recommend the Root for a dining experience you won't find anywhere else in the area.

Apparently this restaurant used to have great food but definitely not anymore. Me and 7 other family members went out to eat and not one of us enjoyed our dinner. The waitress took quite awhile to take our orders to begin with. The appetizers were nothing special with ridiculously small portions. I ordered the meatloaf and felt it was too salty and nothing special. It came with some strange sauce on it that had little flavor. My grandmother ordered the pad thai and hardly ate any of it. 2 people ordered the fish special and in addition to both of them not liking it, one got about half the amount of fish that the other received. The "miso soup" tasted like beef bullion soup. I heard that the chef opened another restaurant elsewhere which may explain why the food has gone downhill. Other members of my family have been here and said it used to be great. Its safe to say that none of us will be going back. DO NOT be fooled the by the good reviews! I have eaten at many upscale restaurants throughout my life and this is certainly not one of them, would give 0 stars if I could.
