Sandra, 18, has been sponsored thought CFCA's Hope for a Family program for 10 years. Over that time, she's witnessed her mom transform into a leader in the community by participating in a local mother's group. #nonprofit   #empowerwomen

Dads show caring community in action
The CFCA community is there for families before and after natural disasters strike. Families in the province of Iloilo, for example, will get help from a group of CFCA dads from the Antipolo project who have training and experience in disaster response. The CFCA dads will travel to Iloilo  to help families there rebuild. CFCA will cover the cost of materials, and the dads will provide labor and construction expertise.

We're taking a look at #Peru today as we continue to celebrate Geography Awareness Week!

With more than 5,000 years of history, Peru boasts one of the richest cultural legacies in the world. Although Peru has made great strides in reducing national poverty, economic disparities are still high. Read more on our blog: http://bit.ly/1aRj2KK  #GAWeek

About 40% of the population lives in poverty, which can make it hard for children to go to school.

Before he was sponsored, Austine and his brothers spent many of their days carrying sand for construction sites. It helped their mom feed the family, but there was nothing left over for school fees. If Austine tried to attend school, he was chased away.

Once Austine became sponsored, he got the chance to finally attend school. Last year, he graduated with a bachelor’s of science in bio-medical sciences. But his dream doesn’t stop there. The Filipinos not only deal with natural catastrophes such as typhoons and earthquakes, they have an armed conflict to contend with in the southern Philippines.

Rhodora Partosa, our project coordinator in Zamboanga, said families displaced by the conflict in Zamboanga put aside their own needs to show concern for typhoon victims in other regions .http://bit.ly/1bqRkp1 #Haiyan  #Zamboanga #Philippines

It's the last day of Geography Awareness Week! As the world’s fourth-largest economy, India is a global player in many industries, including information technology, pharmaceuticals and agriculture. Despite all these incredible accomplishments, the country still struggles with rampant inequity. Recent estimates from the World Bank show that more than 400 million Indians live in poverty. We’re still celebrating Geography Awareness Week! Today, we take a look at Madagascar, one of the countries in Africa where we work.

Madagascar is the fourth-largest island nation and home to some of the rarest animals and plants in the world. The country’s isolation allows these exotic species to survive. Unfortunately, this isolation also means the Malagasy people can sometimes feel cut off from the rest of the world. The World Bank estimates that 92% of residents live on less than $2 a day. Our teams in the field do not believe that any of the 45,000 sponsored friends associated with CFCA projects have been killed. But we share the grief of thousands of families whose loved ones died in the path of this catastrophic storm, and we stand ready to help survivors of Typhoon Haiyan rebuild. #Haiyan http://blog.cfcausa.org/2013/11/12/typhoon-haiyan-how-you-can-help/
