There is a ton of FREE money available to students to help them pay for college! There are all sorts of scholarships out there, but the government is by far the largest provider of student financial aid. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) program gives students access to $150 billion in grants, loans and work-study funds made available by the federal government.

Did you know that the city of Houston provides FREE #swimming lessons to children ages 6-13? The city’s H2OSafe lessons are available for beginner, intermediate and advanced swimmers.

It's #rodeo season! The trail riders are headed to Memorial Park, but the Los Vaqueros Rio Grande Trail Ride traveled by several HISD schools, and students were outside in their western wear to greet them. +NBA legends and +BBVA Compass employees visited students at Crespo Elementary Thursday to stress the importance of financial literacy and #education.

Former +Houston Rockets stars Clyde Drexler, who is a Sterling HS alum, and Elvin Hayes, along with former players John Lucas, Felipe Lopez and T.J. Ford, visited classes and talked to students about working hard on their studies and staying in school.

Check out these adorable photos of #Read Across America/Dr. Seuss Celebration in Mr. Bradley's Kindergarten class at Roosevelt Elementary. Several guest readers came to celebrate their love of literacy with the class. Students completed Dr. #Seuss themed #reading, #math, and #science activities including making Green Eggs & Ham and using the five senses to observe and record information.

Schools across Houston ISD gathered Saturday to #celebrate the Year of the Horse.

The Confucius Institute hosted the program at Sharpstown International School and featured cultural performances, art, and educational activities from eight HISD schools.

Participating schools included Bellaire, Furr, and Westside high schools, the Houston Academy for International Studies, Kolter ES, Mandarin #Chinese Language Immersion Magnet School, Lanier and Pin Oak middle schools, and Sharpstown International School.
