What a thrill! Recently I had the honor to attend the annual Military Writers Society of America conference where I received the Founder's Award for Best Novel for my new international espionage book, THE ASSASSINS. Founder Bill McDonald, in the photo with me, gave me the award. What an amazing group of men and women -- memoirists, novelists, nonfiction writers, and poets. Thank you for your service, and thank you for liking my work! By the way, Bill is a writer, too. Google him!

Don't you love seeing old friends? We were at Bouchercon in Raleigh last weekend and delighted to see a slew of fantastic readers and great authors.  From left, Robin Burcell, David Morrell, me, and Carla Buckley.  Second photo: Heather Graham, Joe Finder, and me.

What do you do when you return from trips? I excavate my desk, which leads me to my computer and just now to the fantastic news that the great John le Carre is writing his memoirs. A couple of years ago when he turned 80, my short story "Max Is Calling" was chosen by a big Brit radio station to read in his honor. Guess who was really honored? - Me! Talk about a thrill!

What do you have hanging on your walls? Below is the door to my office, & above it is a replica of the infamous warning sign posted at Checkpoint Charlie, the dangerous border crossing in the Berlin Wall between West and East. It says: “You are leaving the American sector” in Russian, French, German and English. It seems like ancient history now, but those were perilous times. ‪#‎CheckpointCharlie‬ ‪#‎ColdWar‬ ‪#‎EastBerlin‬ ‪#‎WestBerlin‬ ‪#‎Berlin‬ ‪#‎history‬ ‪#‎SovietUnion‬ ‪#‎BerlinWall‬

Looking for a thrilling spy read? My friend, Chris Goff, has just published her first espionage novel, set almost entirely in Jerusalem. Check it out here: http://www.christinegoff.com. Lee Child hails it for its "great characters, action, and location—altogether terrific." Booklist concurs: "Goff has a winner with Raisa as a series lead. A sure bet fans of international thrillers."

Latest movie news (sorta) about my spy thriller novel Mosaic. Sean McNamara, the director slated to make Mosaic, just released the trailer for his most recent project, The Moon & the Sun. My take is his new movie is in a very different genre but also very high-quality, and intriguing. It stars Pierce Brosnan and  Kaya Scodelario and was shot in the Hall of Mirrors in Versaille Palace. Hope it's a huge hit! Fingers crossed he goes to work on Mosaic next!

Do you ever fall asleep in a chair, or at your desk?  If there's a child in your life, he or she might do that easily.  But put them in their crib or cot, and they can be shockingly awake.  Here's a new hit book that "promises to have a child nodding off in no time, with a perfect combination of sentence structure and soporific words." Where's my pillow?

Here's a great unsolved murder.... Why was the 31-year-old Brit spy killed, and who did it? He'd hacked into an event former President Bill Clinton was going to attend.  His MI6 bosses raged over the data breach amid growing tensions with U.S. security services over the spy's transatlantic work. With thanks to John Lovell, check out this fascinating case via the link.
