As the consumer demands more data wirelessly, the industry needs to move for a 4G to a 5G transmission technology. Unfortunately, as we go to higher data transmission rates there is an exponential and unacceptable decrease in the efficiency of the transmitter. This decrease can be fixed using a technology called envelope tracking, which has already been adopted in newer 4G/LTE base stations as well as cellular phones. Envelope tracking in base stations requires the high speed, high power, and high voltages that are only available using GaN technology. Today this is one of the largest markets for GaN transistors, and will hold that position for the next several years. http://hubs.ly/H06scsC0
