Compassionate God,
we search for you in the fires of Interior British Columbia; where homes and ranches, resorts and businesses have been destroyed , where cherished pets and livestock have been left behind, where well remembered places have been consumed by the flames, and in homes where smoke has penetrated every corner.

And we find you, Compassionate God;

with the hard pressed firefighters battling the flames, with workers caring for those who have lost everything, with those who provide food, guidance and a place to stay, And with those co-ordinating efforts to control the fires.

You will be a source of hope, Compassionate God, to all whose lives have been utterly changed by the fires, and a source of strength to those who are hard tested on the fire lines.

We will support those affected by fire with gifts of money to the Red Cross and other aid agencies.

We will support the threatened by keeping in touch and the offer of space in our homes.

We will offer as a faith community, prayer, refuge from the flames and smoke and money to assist with fresh starts.

These our prayers, we offer in the name of Jesus Christ, who lost everything he had but was never lost to your love, Most Compassionate God.

Amen
