Interesting case on the ways Rahm Emanuel used Facebook in his campaign for Chicago Mayor.

It's kind of funny to me that the politicians who quit saying they want to spend more time with their families are often the ones who have been spending too much time with OTHER people's families?

+Scott Canon has an interesting story on Google's possible plans to use Google Fiber as their entry point into the cable TV business.

Obviously, there will be some cable execs who won't find that welcome news. But I think the business that is most disruptive to over the long haul is Nielsen and their ratings system.

I have always been baffled by how cable rates are set given that the technology is available to gather actual usage data. I have always presumed that cable didn't use that data because it would be as favorable to them from a ratings standpoint as the Nielsen data.

However, if Google makes a play here, they will very quickly have massive amounts of data, and they won't have a vested interest in the current ad rate/ratings system. Look for some major disruption from Google on that front.

Twitter is opening up a self-serve ad platform for small biz. Interesting that they are pairing up with +American Express to do it.

One of the great virtues of online advertising is that it can be carefully targeted.

That's why I was so amused to see that GOP Senate Candidate John Brunner is wasting his money by running banner ads on Talking Points Memo bashing Senator Claire McCaskill.

He's sure to get lots of traction with those ads among the progressive audience of TPM. But hey, I'm perfectly happy to see Brunner's personal fortune going into Josh Marshall's pocket.

I've created a Facebook page to track developments on Missouri's new law banning teachers from Facebook.

Here's the most interesting part of the RFT story on Lt. Governor Peter Kinder:

As for that famous photo, she's mystified as to how it got out. She took it, she says, and she e-mailed it to him before deleting it. Kinder, she says, is the only person she e-mailed it to; she has no idea how it wound up being sent to Riverfront Times.

RFT, in general, is a dirt bag rag. Hard to trust anything that comes out between the cover and back. And I'm a born and bred STL boy. In news. And really doesn't care if people go to places like that or not.
