Introduction

Phil Gomez reports from the Santa Cruz newsroom for KSBW Action News 8.

Phil went to San Jose State University, and and received a degree in Journalism with an emphasis in television news.

Gomez knows television journalism inside and out. He has worked at KERO in Bakersfield,  KOLO in Reno, Nevada, KSBY, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., KNTV, and KRDO, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Phil has been reporting for KSBW since 1997. Most of his work is devoted to covering Santa Cruz County, but occasionally he'll get an assignment in another area on the Central Coast.

Most people are surprised to learn Phil was born in Herefordshire, England, near London, and came to the United States, when he was a child. (He lost the accent a long time ago!) Phil enjoys living in Santa Cruz County, and shares a home with his girlfriend Debbie. They have a dog, Augie (Border Collie-Aussie Shepard mix) and a cross-eyed Maine Coon cat, named Macaroni.

Phil has won many awards while working in television news. Among them, The Colorado, for two investigative series on prison gangs, and Kids Who Kill; and the California State Fair Award for coverage of the 1983 floods in Santa Cruz County, and an unusual feature story in which local personalities posed nude for a calendar, the proceeds of which went to a local charity cause.

"I have been blessed to have met and worked with some very talented people in this industry and continue to learn something new every day" says Phil. "I enjoy nearly all forms of sports. I'm an avid Bay Area fan and I'm a fanatical follower of the Liverpool Soccer Club! I appreciate our KSBW viewers, so if you see me about, please come up and say hi!" Gomez said.
