There are no shortage of employment “experts” who will tell you that unlimited vacations, “play areas,” and thank you notes are the path to happy and motivated workers. But, let's be honest: for many businesses such benefits are out of place and they can actually be a real turnoff.

As more and more business processes, such as payment processing, accounting, marketing and advertising, customer service, and order creation are not only digitalized, but connected to the Internet, data backup, security, and recovery have become an essential part of doing business.

With all the emphasis on the current way consumers are using the Internet and social media to help them make their purchasing decisions, we have seen an overwhelming amount of disconnect between big companies in particular and the customers they are trying to reach. It’s as if the marketing basics have some how been taken out of their marketing play book.

+JSM Thanks for the input, and "biases" aside, I know many people who are using Freshbooks, and they are very happy with it.

When you are in business for yourself, exchanging time and effort for money, you may quickly start feeling like your time is no longer your own. Even if you are a time management maven, it can sometimes take a super human effort to pull yourself away from all the digital distractions clamoring for your attention.

Since a day will never be more than 24 hours (no matter how much you want that extra hour), how do you go about reclaiming your time and attention? How can you do your work, yet have enough space and energy to focus on the (off-line) things that matter the most?

Here are ten of the most common bad habits that are absolutely destroying your productivity and your quality of life.

The holiday of Chanukah falls out during the darkest time of the year- both physically and spiritually. On these cold, long winter nights, it can be challenging to not feel a little down- even if you are a night owl and you enjoy the cold, and even if you are generally a positive person. On the spiritual side, the glow of the Yomin Noraim may have begun to wear off over the past two months, taking any resolve and clarity you may have achieved along with it.

In other words, it's a hard time of the year...

Chanukah falls out during the darkest time of the year, but through the light of the Chanukah candles, all the darkness of the world is illuminated.

Managing small business finances is one of the less sexy aspects of running a business, but it’s the key to long term business success. One of the most common issues we have found among startups is a great deal of financial chaos. Often this is due to the fact that the entrepreneurs behind these ventures did not plan their financial side properly.

Delinquent customer accounts can bring your small business' cash flow to a grinding halt. But before you hand over your bad debt to a collection agency you may want to revamp your own attempts to secure those overdue payments...

We know this is a global Google+ community, but we wanted to share an article about how the Commerce in Fort McMurray (Alberta, Canada) is shut down while all efforts are thrown into helping evacuees and stopping the flames.
While the people are in need of help, what are small businesses going to do when the emergency is over? We want to see other small business owners reach out and see what help they can offer in order for these businesses survive this natural disaster. Even if you can not directly help, comment and share to give others ideas of how they can help.
