Trying to figure out what it would take to create a turnkey Linux VM with most of the popular Open Source Mac management tools such as Puppet, Munki/Munkiweb/munkiserver, Reposado and NetBoot preconfigured for easy deployment.

SUSE Studio comes to mind, but I'm not sure if SUSE is the best Linux distro for an endeavour like that. I've personally been using CentOS to test munkiserver in a VM, which has been fine so far.

Regardless of distro, Linux install packages would need to be created to install and/or configure:

- Munki (create a basic directory structure and serve it with Apache)
or Munkiweb (not released yet, but similar to Munkireport)
or munkiserver (A Rails app)
- Reposado (Apache config, etc)
- ISC DHCP to handle and serve NetBoot requests (using publicly available information)

Also, this would still exclude DeployStudio (other than a repo AFP/NFS fileshare) and InstaDMG from the mix, unless one were to create some sort of web UI that controls a separate dedicated Mac OS X server hosting DS and/or InstaDMG.

Curious to hear how others feel on this subject.

Heading into chapter 3 of the Pro Puppet book and I'm amazed at how much sense this is making, or more accurately, how it's making more and more sense as I keep reading. A dozen possible solutions to issues I've had in my environment have popped into my head so far. Love books like this. -> http://www.apress.com/9781430230571

OK lazyplus -- I need to run low voltage wiring behind crown molding between components and plasma set. I found Wiretracks but they're out of business, any suggestions for an alternate solution?

Any Mini Cooper owners out there able to back up the alleged engine problems with 2007+ models that are being denied/ignored by BMW? I'm considering getting one but am hearing I'd be better off with a 2005-2006 preowned, sub-50k mile Cooper S than a new one.

So apparently you can't freeze pork tenderloin for 2.5 years and then expect it to still be edible. Lesson learned, I guess.

Here's to hoping this doesn't turn into another MySpace. Also, do I ask people to "circle me"? "I uncircled that guy, he's a dick." Ah, new frontiers.
