Need a bitcoin consultant?

Happy to help you over Skype, Google Hangout, or in person in Silicon Valley. It will cost you 30 minutes and one bitcoin to setup a wallet, buy a couple coins and make a first payment while we chat about the future.

Nothing about bitcoin should worry any honest government. Unstoppable and beneficial to all, first the Internet and now bitcoin emerge when the laws of math meet inexpensive computing power.

"if you dont increase you IT budget you are falling behind" Ahem. No.

For a SaaS company with exponential growth that is at or below Moore's "double every 12-18 months", hardware expenses will remain the same year over year, wether $20k, $200k, or $2M per year. In other words, after one is able to deliver on customer contracts, any amount allocated above is driven by relative positioning vs the competition.

This is where many people's mental models are wrong. This is where Cassandra is wrong when is desires ever more boxes. More boxes just cost more in electricity. Exponential technology trends are also why it is possible to virtualize multiple old servers into one new server without a loss of functionality.

So to be clear, nothing that I do is about downsizing anything, quite the contrary. More robust, more flexible, and supporting continuous and cash flow friendly improvements instead of forklift upgrades every few years. These are my guiding thoughts. Cheap and fun are certainly welcome and perhaps sometimes the most visible side effects but neither is a direct goal.

Second, because many have relied on exponential hardware trends and increasing budgets to cover their engineering mistakes, once caught up hardware wise, the place to fight the competition is with software that makes better use of hardware, better algorithms to start. After that its about using uncommon techniques like applying GPUs to get the next 1000x. Beyond that, for 10,000x to 100,000x custom hardware is needed.
