In my blog post today I talk about the effectiveness of marketing. I hear it at least once a week my marketing efforts aren't working and I'm not getting new clients. My response is did you know we've changed how we receive information? If you're marketing doesn't meet this change then your marketing will fail. Now more than ever it's time to pick a niche so your marketing efforts are super-hyper-focused.

Action NOT Perfection - from my blog today. One thing I've learned over the years working with entrepreneurs is that one of their biggest expenses is Perfection. Things don't have to be perfect - they just have to BE. Most of the time the only person mulling over every little tiny detail of something is YOU. No one else cares that much. Here's my AHA moment...

One of the largest mistakes that entrepreneurs make is their actions and mindset doesn't match where they ACTUALLY ARE in their business. For example if you need customers or clients yesterday you're in peril mode. A person that has enough clients and is just managing their business is in management mode. A person who needs customers yesterday shouldn't be in management mode etc. Here is a video that I did a while back that can possibly provide the wake up call that can get you on track.

Good point +Tammy Hawk-Bridges . Too often we get caught up in routines, while we should match our activities to our goals.

+Tammy Hawk-Bridges Yes, I am aware that huge loud images with zero information does draw attention.  So do you think we should allow everyone to do that?   I don't think we have "overkill" in our moderation at all here, but if we do, this is ABSOLUTELY not one of those cases.   Normally this would just be removed without comment.

I'm sorry you think that me and the other moderators here like +Rebecca Quinn are not "in the trenches".   I think I am not going to bother to respond to your accusation.

Planning & Strategy  -

I've been a little absent from this board lately! I have missed it so! Going through tons of changes some great some not-so-great. Growth can be painful! My daughter just came into my business full time and it caused me to realize my systems were just designed for one person (ME) so I've had to revamp everything so I can grow. I wrote about it this week in my blog. I AM seeing light at the end of the tunnel. :-)

Starting a business is tough - but growing a business is tougher.  There are 4 very common hurdles for entrepreneurs when it comes to growth. One is not having a plan of attack. If you don't have a plan then you get the default plan which is the hamster wheel. The hamster wheel plan will provide you with tons of turning action. Problem is you don't get anywhere new.

Internet / Web / Social  -

Today's marketing lesson from my blog is about social signals and how our social media following impacts our search engine ranking. Search engines like Google understand that people are more likely to connect with content and websites that are recommended by people that they like, trust and admire. As a result this is a strong consideration and getting stronger. Social marketing needs to be a strong consideration in your strategy.

Next week I will be talking about social signals quite a bit. Social signals are crucial to the NEW SEO. Did you know that when your content is shared it gives off a signal that Google hears? When it's shared a lot that signal is stronger so Google can hear you better. When Google hears you better guess what happens?

So this was week one of hiring a "full time" in house employee. It was exhausting (the training process and still getting the work done) but very eye-opening. I now fully understand the 80/20 rule and know that without respecting that rule I won't go to the next level. I should concentrate 80% of my time on the big picture and the other 20% should be handled by someone else. The 20% is not what makes me profitable.

My blog post today was in honor of my 5 year milestone as an entrepreneur. I've discovered that if you really want to be successful in a business you MUST be the maestro. You need to have your finger on the pulse of your business. :-)

Introduction
I was shoved from a job that I loved - I then decided that never again would another human being have that kind of control over my destiny. I decided I wanted to hold it in my own hands, so I started a business. The first business, after 13 months of time, tons of lost sleep, and many tears shed, failed. I think it's important to explain that I wasn't working for shopping money but was the primary income earner so there were no multiple choice answers. I had to make this work or go back to the cube. I figured out the errors I made. I thought that being a smart business woman gave me a sure-in. I was wrong. I didn't understand marketing, more specifically Internet marketing. I also worked my butt off 14 hours + per day but I had NO plan - no science to my madness. I was wasting time.

I dove in and learned everything I could about marketing - I came up with a kick-butt plan. I entered business two with the eye of the tiger. It was a slam-dunk, I was successful almost immediately. But something didn't feel quite right. That little feeling inside me that drove me to put my feet on the floor even when I felt like I could slide right under a snake's belly - was still searching. I wasn't happy. I felt so discouraged. I was lost.

Then....I realized something. As I was talking to clients about the projects I was helping them to create, I realized they too didn't understand marketing. They didn't have a plan. There were a lot of simple questions about their businesses they didn't have the answers to.

I found my purpose. I lost that searching feeling inside, I knew what I was supposed to do.

I want to hold the flashlight for entrepreneurs that are like I was. I want to save you from making tons of useless and costly mistakes. I want to teach you how to be profitable faster. I want to show you that IT IS possible to have your own business. I want to teach you how to be profitable.
