"Why do [sponsors] give money to the pretty women and the skilful men?" #australianopen
Until all athletes are held to the same standards, women will keep being asked stupid questions, writes Chris Braae.

We create our own problems. The more this is held open for all of us to see, the more likely we are to see how we're creating them and, hopefully, end them.

Great (and sad) graphic from LA Times:

In the United States, five methods are in use to execute condemned prisoners -- firing squad, hanging, gas chamber, electrocution and lethal injection. Here’s a look at the executions carried out since 1976, where the specific methods are legal and some of the things that could go wrong: http://lat.ms/1nmBDti

A sad story when so much effort goes into the nurturing and survival of these little guys:

A young Kiwi, whose birth shortly after the Christchurch earthquake raised morale at a Canterbury wildlife park, has been mauled and killed by an unleashed dog: http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/10028511/Beloved-kiwi-killed-by-dog #wildlife

There are good dog owners and then there are others. Shame.

"No one experiment is going to replace what we are now losing with the demise of news on paper, but over time, the collection of new experiments that do work might give us the #journalism  we need."

A beautifully-written piece, albeit a bit more doom and gloom than what I've seen. Thoughts?
In those days, every Friday around midnight, the streets outside the Age building overflowed with people who came to buy an early copy of the paper with its thousands of classified ads for jobs, cars

Cool to see so many US fans getting into #rugby  for the +All Blacks game in #Chicago:
62,000 people watched the All Blacks take on the US Eagles, and the vast majority were Americans.

This video of two tourists who get stuck on top of an enormous whale genuinely scared the bejeezus out of me today: http://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/themes/adventure/10309791/We-re-on-top-of-the-whale

Pretty shocking revelations here for NZ #journalism  today

Three months worth of phone records for Fairfax journalist Andrea Vance were handed over to a ministerial inquiry, Parliament's Speaker David Carter has confirmed. Carter today apologised and acknowledged answers given last week denying Vance's phone records had been handed over were wrong. #nzpolitics
