How Do I?  -

Is it possible to reference template variables from within fields (content entered via the admin panel)? Like if I wanted to dynamically display the current year within a post?

If I have a matrix, how would I search for (using its ID) and return a particular item in that matrix?

Yes! Works great. Am sending a query string with the ID from another page and to display the matrix block on the target page. Thanks!

I'm creating a home page with a carousel element that has a photo, heading, excerpt, and link. I'd like to be able to have a variable number of elements to loop through, say from about three to maybe six. I would then loop across them in article tags in my template.

What's the best way to do this? Should I create a channel, or some kind of global? If the latter, don't see "repeater" elements like I've used in Processwire projects.

Thanks!

I really like using the TTS functions in OS X. Helps me get through reading that would otherwise have me alt-tabbing to distractions. The new high quality voices are a great addition. Usually $45 each retail, they're downloadable for free from Lion. I'm using the British voice Serena at the moment, and everything sounds like an Economist audio edition.

The Scottish Standard English voice, Fiona, is great to my ears. The Japanese voice is equally excellent.

Guess it helps to be handsome as hell as well as smart if you're going to drive around the country in a magic bus.

I'm trying out the users package and was able to create my two client users so they can update site content. I wanted to hide the CP from them, but then they can't log in. ("You cannot access the CP with that account.")

So, how do I allow users to add and edit content without messing with settings? Thanks!

Right - the only people that will be able to access the site settings are admins.

Really enjoying Craft, but still getting my head around some basic concepts.

If I want to create a section called 'about', and have various pages inside that display data from Matrix fields in held in global field sets, how would I do that?

I created a subdirectory called 'about', and then made a file called 'foo.html. However, if I try to access entry.matrixHandle, I get an error that the variable 'entry' does not exist.

Do I need to create a section structure so that my page is wired into Craft?

I guess what I'm asking is this: I've been reading that global sets are preferred to making a single page for everything, but it seems I'm missing a step in using my globals in a subdirectory (which I suppose corresponds to a section).

That's correct Geoff.  You'd have to do migrate your content at the database level or manually.

Hi folks. New to Craft, but enjoying it so far.

I'm a bit stumped on how to use an asset field in my templates. I created an Asset field type called "image" that I've included as a field in my "news" section.

Now, if I'm looping through with:

{% for entry in craft.entries.section('news').find() %}

How could I access the URL of that image asset to display in an img tag?

Thanks!

You can also do this:

{% set image = entry.image.first() %}

{% if image %}
    <img src="{{ image.getUrl() }}">
{% endif %}

Amsterdam

As an American who has been living here for several years, I am struck, every time I go home, by the way American cities remain manacled to the car.
While Europe is dealing with congestion and greenhouse gas buildup by turning urban centers into pedestrian zones, many American cities are carving out more parking spaces.
