"Plus, [the study] defangs itself when it says, 'we're not saying they're the dangerous kind of psychopath,' so really I just think it's an attention-grabber and not actually a substantive piece of information. Do you need a psychological kink of some kind to function as a comedian, particularly one that makes a living at it? Yes. Is that kink psychosis or close to psychosis? I don't know and I don't really care."

"...I’ve long known that parking increases the costs of housing (especially, and perversely, for those who don’t own cars, since parking fees virtually never cover the actual costs of the parking spaces they rent, partially because when people are faced with the actual, un-hidden cost of car storage, they generally refuse to pay it). But if the developments in this study are representative, I had no idea how much I’d underestimated the effect:"

"But what has perplexed researchers is that when these depressed patients are awakened 5 minutes into the first REM sleep episode, they’re unable to explain what they are experiencing. This complete lack of dream recall in depression has showed up in study after study, but it’s been unclear whether it’s due to patients’ reluctance to talk with researchers or to truly not forming and experiencing any dreams."

Don't know about you-all, but if I have a MAJOR cleaning job to do (garage, guest room turned storage unit) I experience a mental grid lock and emotion hovering near despair. If you asked me ten minutes into the project what was happening, you'd see my dead eyes and know I'm waiting for a bus at Freaking Mess City. Dreaming is reorganizing random crap inside your head. If you haven't been getting proper sleep and allowing the brain janitors to put your stuff away in the right places, the corridors of your mind start to look like my garage. The brain prefers nice clean synaptic connections uninhibited by that emotional encounter with your ex that now will not move its sorry ass from the thought hallway. Buddhists have it right: Right food. Right work. Right movement. Right companionship. Right rest. We're still trying to cram a little more "production time" into our day and we're giving up the right sleep time to do that. Result: depression. Surprise! Now, get some sleep!
