Awaking in the basin well before dawn, I stumbled from my tent and shuffled over to the back of the truck for my morning coffee. Sipping the black gold under the stars I watched as the sky unfolded in hues of blue and purple above a canopy of Spruce. I knew I needed to get moving soon to catch the display of light over the jagged peaks and verdant fields of flowers, so I walked down the dusty dirt 4x4 track to an area of lush flowers an...

It started out like any other day, I was scouting locations in advance of a week of private guiding in the mountains. I rolled into Silverton around 2pm and filled my provisions for the night, fueled up and checked my tires and spares before heading up the rough road to Stony Pass to see the wildflower conditions. They where excellent and I spent an hour hiking and shooting the landscape under stormy monsoon skies above 12,000 feet.

At 12,2000 feet the trail crosses a rocky slope of Mount Sneffells before steeply climbing a steep ridge towards 13,000 foot Blue Lakes Pass. After about 45 minutes of huffing and puffing in the thin air we arrived at the pass to a spectacular sight of mountains stretching in a 180 degree view. To our backs the hulking rocky form of Mount Sneffels rises to 14,150 above. I climbed this peak back in 2005.

Angel Falls, Zion National Park, Utah www.josephrossbach.com www.adventuresinlightphotoworkshops.com This is Arch Angel Falls in Zion National Park. Located just before the famous Subway, these falls are famous in and of themselves. On this morning in early November, I started the long hike to the Subway down the canyon 2 hours before sunrise to be at these falls by myself for a while before others arrived. I was lucky that morning and had almos...

Joe Rossbach wanders the desert, pointing his camera in the "wrong direction" and gets some awesome images you don't want to miss.

Expectations are a dangerous thing. They can lead us to great disappointment often and utter satisfaction only rarely. I often hear  and read other photographers whine and wallow over the lack of great light or weather at that location they have been chasing an image or idea for years. I often wonder how many images have passed them by as they sit in wait for that one shot, that idea that never fully realizes itself. I have learned (a...
