Look... Ffffff... I'm dreadfully sorry to bother you, but she doesn't appear to have an email address. Would one of you who, unlike me, uses Twitter be so generous and lovely as to tell @BeeDeborahbee1 that I liked her book, please? Esp. the characterisation - very deftly done.

READING. (Do Not Panic - you will not have to read.)

I get asked, “When will you be coming to X?” - where X is the place the person lives, and is ridiculous; like Adelaide or Minneapolis or Exmouth. The answer is: never. Obviously. However, as a writer, when you do what’s called an ‘event’ they make you do what’s called a ‘reading’ – present a small section from your book, out loud, using your mouth. It occurred to me that I could simply video myself doing the readings I do for my novels(1). Thus, I’ll still never go to wherever it is you have the irony to live... but if I did, I’d do a reading, and this is what it would be like. So, it’s almost like I’ve come there, but you don’t have to leave the house, and I don’t have to sort out visas and inoculations. The Internet’s fab, isn’t it?

I’ll upload my readings for all of the novels (and some other stuff too). I will do this eventually. Unfortunately, the winter’s over now, so I’m going to be cycling too often to do much at all until at least November. Still, I’ve put up the first reading, from (randomly) LOANDE, on my YouTube channel today.

PLEASE NOTE: There are TWO versions of it. One is the normal version, the other is the version For Americans – the latter is censored, because I know how distressed Americans can be if they hear a swear. (I suppose you could also use the For Americans version if you’re, say, watching it on your mobile during a wedding or something. But that’s a bit off anyway. I mean - have some class: if you’re watching it on your mobile during a wedding, wear earphones.)

More later.

But, as I say, probably not until about November.

Mil.

(1)This actually occurred to me absolutely ages ago, but I’ve been too lazy, busy, or even more lazy to get around to it until now.

And before anyone responds that it's not really the done thing for people to be sending out their Christmas cards this early in December, I'd advise you against provoking me into a survey of normative behaviour... These... Days. OK?
