I'm pretty annoyed and hoping someone can help: I take all the steps possible to optimize a client's pages for a few terms, let's say chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. The terms are mapped to specific pages.

Well a few days later, my tracking software shows me they are ranking for the term - but it's ALWAYS the homepage. The term is not on the homepage, nor is it in the Title, Htags, etc. yet the homepage is what is ranking. This is becoming a huge problem, because when they lose rank for a term, I'm at a loss to fix it - I can't bloody well keep optimizing the homepage for assorted terms. Ack. Any ideas why this is happening?

Google+ question here: So I've been all along thinking that the ratings and +1s you get on your Google+ local page have a pretty direct effect on your local SERP performance.

So why when I do a search of the same term, same locality, in Google+ local and in Google, am I not seeing the same top local results in the 3-pack? I need some clarity on this!

Alt tag opinion question: It's been suggested to me that you can take the same image, use throughout a site and give it a distinct alt tag and keyword-rich filename in each occurrence.

So on one page it's "/delicious-cupcakes-graphic.jpg" and on another it's "/tasty-dessert-cakes.jpg" - but it's the same image.

Greyhat or nah? I can't see how Google can tell it's the same image since Google can't read images, but it does strike me as a little skeevy lol. Ok or nah?

Wow. Google is doing a LOT (what's new...)
Search Update: Google+ Events are now indexed in Google Search. I actually noticed this before last week, and I believe it may have started with the recent Google Calendar update. Previously G+ Events were almost the last type of G+ content that had yet to be indexed in Google Search & well... just so you know, now they are.

I've previously had this discussion with a few people & explained that Events were not indexed, but the completed Hangouts are, so I thought I'd make this change clear. This doesn't prove that all events will be indexed, but certainly high authority profile events should be.

A side aspect to this might be, that an HOA Event setup early & receiving some good authority, through shares & engagement, will likely rank higher in search potentially providing another level of audience reach depending on the topic.

I'm working with someone who has an old Google Places account with a recently phone verified listing. When I try to claim their Google+ Local listing  (logged in using their Google Places account) it tries to make me edit a NEW Google Places listing.

It essentially wants to override the old one. They've already confirmed that one - we don't want to have to go through that process again. What is the answer here?

Affordable smart phones, care of Firefox!

(I still have pledged my undying allegiance to the Google Overlords, but this is nice.)
$25 Smartphone From Mozilla with Firefox OS

This may not be a good news to you, but I'm sure it would be, for those who always wanted to have a web-phone, but couldn't afford it.

At Mobile world congress, Mozilla unveiled its plans to bring entry level smartphones for as low as $25. Well, this is definitely not a threat to the biggies, but these phones would definitely reach the masses. Especially for their smart OS.

Let's not compare it with the specs of iPhones or other high end phones like HTC One and Samsung Galaxy. But what Mozilla offers has everything one would need to do basic stuff on the web. I really like the way they're making technology affordable to everyone.

More details about their mission, the os and devices can be found at: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/os/

What do you think?
